His hostage...

In 1758 the Pennsylvania frontier is wild, primitive and dangerous, where safety often lies at the end of a gun. Mara Dupré's life crumbles when a French and Indian war party attacks her cabin, kills her husband, and takes her captive.

Marching through the wilderness strengthens her resolve to flee, but she doesn't count on her captor teaching her the meaning of courage and the tempting call of desire.

Her destiny...

French lieutenant Jacques Corbeau's desire for his captive threatens what little honor he has left. But when Mara desperately offers herself to him in exchange for her freedom, he finds the strength to refuse and reclaims his lost self-respect. As the shadows of his past catch up to him, Jacques realizes that Mara, despite the odds, is the one true key to reclaiming his soul and banishing his past misdeeds forever.

Excerpt:

Holding the towel to his shoulder, he walked over and stood by the bed to check on the woman, who was still in a faint. Despite her pallor, he noted that her skin was fine, her nose straight and thin. She had a lower lip just full enough to entice a man to taste it, and a stubborn chin that dared him to try. Under different circumstances….”

She was perhaps not as lovely as he’d thought when he first saw her standing in the clearing—her hair, the color of corn silk, shining in the sunlight. Still, she was tall and fair, with slender curves and shapely ankles visible beneath the short skirts of a farm wife. .”

And now she was a widow. He stared down at the woman and silently vowed to see that no more innocents died today. .”

The woman gave a soft moan and opened her eyes. When she spotted him, she shrank back against the wall, arms folded defensively across her breast. His gut tightened. He didn’t enjoy terrifying women, but fear should make her easier to control. She had already proven unpredictable. .”

Terror, stark and vivid, glittered in her eyes. "Who are you?" .”

"My name is Jacques Corbeau, lieutenant in the army of France. And you are my captive."

* * *

Mara inhaled sharply, panic building inside her. This couldn’t be real. It was all a bad dream. She would wake up soon and tell Emile about it, and they would laugh. And laugh and laugh and…. She swallowed the hysteria engulfing her.

"Madame, are you listening to me?"

The Frenchman’s voice, sharp and insistent, demanded her attention. "There is not much time. My companions are not patient men. We must leave soon, but first I want you to bind my shoulder. Where do you keep bandages?"

Her mouth and throat were dry when she swallowed, but she choked out an answer. "The trunk. Under the bed."

He squatted beside the bed, pulled out the trunk and rummaged through it. She watched his every move, unable to take her eyes off him, alarmed by the physical threat he represented.

He was a tall man who dominated the cabin as Emile never had, and his state of undress revealed nearly every inch of his lean and powerful form. Not only was he bare to the waist, but his breechclout and leggings failed to completely cover his thighs and buttocks. He had a wide-shouldered, rangy body and long, sinewy legs. He looked strong, virile, and infinitely dangerous.

A cold knot formed in Mara’s stomach. The French had killed her father and now her husband. What would they do to her?

She wrapped her arms around her waist. Her grandfather would say whatever happened was God’s will, but she rejected that idea. What kind of God allowed such awful things to happen?

Fearfully, she watched as the Frenchman shoved the trunk back under the bed and stood. He held out the bandages, and she froze. She couldn’t touch him, she just couldn’t.

The man’s heavy black brows drew together in a fierce frown, but his voice was without emotion. "Madame, I am all that stands between you and the men who killed your husband. I can be persuaded to act as your protector. It is to your advantage to do what I command."

Desiree Holt Presents "Forward Pass" a #HotRead #Romance

Forward Pass (Book One: Game On)
It’s never too early or late to play the game.

Shay Beckham grew up idolizing her brother’s best friend, star quarterback Joe Reilly. There was no one in their Texas town who had the moves to match Joe on or off the field. Years later, he’s still a player who has what it takes to drive any hot-blooded woman wild. But Shay isn’t a kid with a bad case of hero-worship anymore. She’s grown-up and independent, with her feet on the ground and a serious head on her shoulders. If she could just say the same for Joe.
It’s been fifteen years, but Joe Reilly hasn’t forgotten the skinny little kid who used to follow him around like a shadow. What he can’t get over is that the skinny shadow has grown into one hell of an incredible woman. One any man in his right mind would kill to get his hands on. And one who seems to be completely immune to him. He knows he and Shay could have something special together. If he could only convince her he’s about more than just the game.

Welcome, everyone. Today we have hot former quarterback and ladies man Joe Reilly in the hot seat. We’ll talk about his second career as a sports reporter and analyst. We wanted to know how he got into it, how his show is doing, and mostly (wink!) how his romance with the sexy Shay Beckham is going.

Interviewer:
So Joe, everyone is excited about your popular show, Inside the Helmet. How did you make such a smooth transition from the playing field to the studio?

Joe:
People have always told me I like to talk a lot. (Pause for a chuckle.) I had an interest in transitioning to broadcasting and Fox Sports came up with the idea of a show about quarterbacks.

Interviewer:
So it’s kind of a former quarterback talking to current quarterbacks?

Joe:
That’s it. I try to get inside their heads and figure out what they’re thinking about the next game on their schedule.

Interviewer:
It doesn’t bother you that they’re out on the field and you aren’t any more?

Joe:
It is what it is. (Short laugh.) Blowing out my knee wasn’t exactly on my game plan, but I’m lucky to have another option that’s really exciting. I’m enjoying the work.

Interviewer:
We don’t see you out on the party trail as much these days. Does this mean you aren’t out partying as much any more? That must make a lot of eager females disappointed.

Joe: (smile disappears)
I think my rep as a party animal was way overblown. These days especially I have time mostly for work and a few friends. I hope people get off that train pretty soon.

Interviewer:
So I guess that means your free time is pretty much taken up by the very sexy Shay Beckham. How is it dating your best friend’s little sister? Someone you’ve known forever.

Joe: (Shifts uncomfortably in his chair)
It’s been a long time since Shay Beckham was a little girl. She’s a very talented, very attractive adult whose company I enjoy.

Interviewer:
But aren’t you staying in the same house together while you’re in town? How does that work? (Interviewer grins.) Must make for some very interesting evenings. And nights.

Joe: (grin is back)
Actually we spend a lot of time discussing her real idol, Joe Montana, former 49ers quarterback.

Interviewer:
So you have a rival for her affections? (grins) How does that work?

Joe:
(laughs) I don’t think he’ll be much competition. I’m not too worried.

Interviewer:
So where do you see you and Shay going from here?

Joe:
I have my own ideas but you’d have to ask Shay about hers.

Interviewer:
Sneaky, sneaky, sneaky! Maybe we can get her in for an interview. Thanks so much for stopping by, Joe. We’ll be sure to tune in to your show every week during the season.

Tempered Fire a #RockingSummerRomance by Pamela S. Thibodeaux

Title: Tempered Fire (book 3 in Tempered series)

Blurb: Amber Harris is a good girl on the brink of womanhood. Stanley Morrison is a young man at the start of his life. For each other, they have always felt the fireworks that two people in love should feel. But the questions about his past, his pride, and Amber's father might be the end of what could be a strong relationship. As the two try to protect their budding romance, some unlikely but powerful forces conspire to keep them apart. Will they survive the wishes of everyone around them with their relationship intact?

Excerpt: Emotion burst to life within her and swarmed through Amber until it overflowed, warm and wet down her cheeks.
Stan tasted her tears and groaned. Loosening his hold he broke the kiss, burying his face against her shoulder. “God,” he mumbled, lifting his head to meet her gaze. “I’m sorry.”
She looked at him wide-eyed and trembling. Anger, desire, and wonder warred in her eyes. She rolled them in an exaggerated gesture. “Now, he apologizes,” she muttered then leveled her gaze on him.
“Why haven’t you kissed me like that before?”
His breath heaved while he struggled for control. “Didn’t think it was proper, still don’t.”
“So that’s what you meant by all lips and teeth and tongue?” she asked, her voice quivering with awe.
He stepped back, touching her cheek with his uninjured hand. “Yes.” His voice was raw, eyes fierce. “But not with anger, never with anger. I’m sorry.”
Grabbing his hand, she pressed a kiss into it. “Show me,” she urged her eyes soft and warm. “Kiss me again, Stanley.”
“No, Amber.” But she was pressing against him, her arms sliding around his neck. Senses dulled by fatigue, resistance clouded by pain, control ravished and weakened by desire, Stanley succumbed with a groan. Hauling her gently but firmly against him, he buried his lips on hers, this time with devastating tenderness.
His mouth embraced hers tasting, teasing, savoring her lips as though he were a starving man biting into his first meal in weeks. His teeth nipped at her lip, tugging a moan from deep within her. Amber clung to him weakly as they slid to the floor.

Chief of Thieves by @StevenKohlhagen #Historical #Western

Chief of Thieves by award-winning author Steven W. Kohlhagen is historical fiction, based on a factual group of 1862 con artists who successfully stole millions of today’s dollars, became cattle ranchers in Oregon and Wyoming, and ultimately met their respective fates at the Battle of Little Bighorn.

Chief of Thieves takes the reader into the disasters of early Western cattle ranching life and the births of lawless Wyoming towns; inside Cheyenne villages and tipis, where this hunting civilization of people, called “the greatest horsemen and cavalry the world ever saw,” lived, raided, and were attacked and massacred as they slept; and into the relentlessly driven lives, internal conflicts, and battles of George Armstrong Custer’s 7th Cavalry.

The stories interweave from Colorado negotiations to battles in Oregon, Wyoming, Kansas, and what is now Montana, including the massacres at Sand Creek and the Washita River, before culminating on a beautiful June 1876 day on the Little Bighorn River.

Custer’s Little Bighorn decisions under fire become understandable in real time when death comes to historical and fictional characters, con artists, U.S soldiers, and Cheyenne as the three stories merge climactically on that fateful day in American history.

Excerpt:

At that moment, three more men walked in through the Bucket of Blood’s swinging door. They carried shotguns. The girls retreated behind the bar. The bartender pulled out a shotgun and placed it on the bar. It was pointed at Lincoln.
“I’m giving you fair warning,” the taller brother said to the man he had called Jim, ignoring the three newcomers. “You get out of here now and take your six friends with you. We’ll forget this ever happened the minute the doors slaps your butt.”
“It’s you three who are leaving” Jim said. “Put your guns down there. On the table.”
“You don’t leave right now, I’ll shoot you right where you stand. Self-defense. Creating a public disturbance. Threatening us. I assumed you were armed like your friends.” He shrugged. Said, “Your choice.”
“Actually,” Lincoln said, “The choice is yours, friend.”
The bartender reached for the shotgun. Nick waved him a warning gesture with his left palm as he aimed his gun at the bartender’s chest.
The other two brothers looked over their shoulders at Lincoln.
“You going to shoot both of us?”
“Like I said, and I just hate to have to repeat myself, it’s your choice. If one of the three of you pulls a trigger or even turns around, then the next three shots will kill you all. I know you’re armed, I don’t have to assume.”
The bartender stepped away from the bar. The other two brothers holstered their pistols. The man with the shotgun nearest the door motioned the girls and the other eleven patrons out of the bar. The two girls looked expectantly at Nick as they backed out the door.
“What now?” said the taller brother after everyone had left.
Under the cover of the three shotguns, the four men who had entered first disarmed the three half-brothers and handcuffed them behind their backs.

“Now we’re going to kill you.”

Best of luck with your book sound interesting,

Book Blast - Time Traveling Hookers by S.E. Burr

S.E. Burr will be awarding a $25 Amazon/BN gift card to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour.

Three modern day roommates and recent college grads take a time machine back to the Wild West. The time machine breaks, stranding them in the past where they are forced to join a brothel to survive.

With the help of future technology, they're able to trick their customers into thinking they're getting what they pay for, without actually having to do the deed.

But the scam involves getting much more up close and personal with smelly, 19th century hicks than germaphobe and prude, Anastasia, is comfortable with.

One customer seems sweeter, more attractive, and better groomed than the rest. Could she actually fall for a cowboy from the dirty, disgusting past?
Excerpt:
Etta hooted. “Art of lovemaking!” she said, slapping her leg. “Well that’s the funniest thing I ever

heard. Ain’t no art going on here. Ain’t no love either. This is a business I’m keeping, and if you

want a room in my brothel, you’ll damn site bring in the money to pay for it.”

Beth was angry. Angry. And when Beth was angry she’d say something she shouldn’t, or worse.

Anastasia put a restraining hand on Beth’s arm and Beth glared at her.

“We’ll make money,” said Anastasia. “We’ll make you plenty of money, but we’re tired and dirty.

We’d like a bath and a bed so we can be ready for tonight.”

“Well, we’ll see, give you a trial, like,” said the woman. “Go on in. I won’t show you to your

rooms. I don’t wear these dirty things into the house, and I’ve got a good sight more work to do

here, but hopefully you can find your own way without waking the whole house. The girls are still

asleep, and there are some gentleman callers hanging around, who I’m sure don’t want to be

disturbed.”

They went into the whorehouse. It was nice, very nice.  On their first trip into the town,

Anastasia had taken it for a wealthy man’s house, a house big enough for a big family, with

sumptuous room to spare.

But as she now knew, this was a different kind of house, and as she would soon learn, this was

a different kind of family.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

S.E. Burr wrote Time Traveling Hookers over the course of a weekend at a Tom Bird writing

retreat in Santa Fe, NM. It is based on a dream she had a few weeks prior to the retreat, but she

did no advanced planning of the plot. She was very surprised to discover that the story was a

romance, as she did not often read romances, let alone write them. She quite enjoyed the

experience and intends to write more romances in the future, but cautions that what she intends

to write and what she actually writes can be two very different things.

She is the author of the young adult novel, Goblin Fruit, inspired by the poem “Goblin Market” by

Christina Rossetti.  The sequel, Goblin Girl, is coming soon. It was inspired by her desire to find

out more of the story.

A nearly lifelong resident of rural New Mexico, S.E. Burr loves the desert, her family, and her

cat.

Lassoed by a Dom by @DesireeHolt Presented by @WildRosePress

Welcome to Rawhide, the exclusive BDSM cub north of San Antonio, Texas, where the ranchers and their friends come to play in carefully guarded anonymity. Ruled by a Dungeon Master extraordinaire, its well-vetted membership enjoys delights to please even the most experienced Dom and sub. Come on in. The evening is just about to start.

Blurb:

Just for an instant their gazes connected, then he was gone. Barrel racer Trish Barton wanted to find that mysterious man in black who in brief seconds pushed all her buttons. A born submissive, she saw herself on her knees before him, bound by the lasso he'd held in his hand.
Jake Keenan had never forgotten that one brief glimpse of he woman who set him on fire, a woman he’d give anything to Master. How could she have taken root in his dreams after that one brief glimpse?
Then Fate threw them together and gave them the opportunity to fully explore the Dom/sub relationship they craved. But Trish wasn’t yet ready to give up the rodeo circuit, much to Jake’s dismay. And then an emergency turned their lives upside down and showed both of them what’s really important.

Excerpt:
Like a paintbrush sweeping across her field of vision the image of a man blew into her mind. She’d only seen him once, at the rodeo in Oklahoma. She couldn’t seem to make herself look away.  And seeing was probably the appropriate word because all she’d gotten was the one look at him. She was brushing Misty after the show and he’d walked into the barn. Something had made her turn at that exact moment and their eyes met. For a breathless second she thought he intended to speak to her. Then a group of friends swept into the barn, crowding her. He backed away and when she could look again he was gone. But the incredible impact of that one quick visual contact had never left her, the image of him etched in her mind.
The most idiotic part of it was this man, who had spent less than a minute in her life, had become the object of some very erotic dreams. No matter how much she tried to wipe away the memory, the nights when she was really tired as soon as she closed her eyes there he was, in his naked glory, the Master of her imagination. Sometimes when she awoke she was sure she could still feel the chafing in her wrists from handcuffs, the pressure of knots from the rope he’d tied her with or a soreness on the cheeks of her ass from his punishment. How crazy was that? Smiling to herself now she wondered if she could run an ad in the paper. Wanted: man in plaid shirt and blue jeans who almost got to talk to me.
Dumb, Trish. Really dumb.
Getting to this point in her rodeo career hadn’t been easy. Ever since her first contest in high school she had worked hard and sacrificed a lot. But she’d had a single-minded purpose and the support of her family. Now she nearly had it all. She was favored to win the title at the Nationals for the third time in a row, validating all she’d accomplished, and her family would be there to cheer her on. So why was it she suddenly felt unsettled. Out of sync. As if there was a hole in her life she’d just stepped into.
Maybe it was the fact that the Doms she spent time with at the private clubs at each stop lately weren’t answering her needs. Up to this point that was all she’d wanted or needed. For the first time since she’d discovered her submissive nature and her needs, everything was suddenly a little off the mark. Or it might be the two weeks she’d just spent hanging out at her friend CeCe’s ranch, taking a break from the circuit. Sitting on the wide porch, drinking iced tea and looking back on things, she’d begun to wonder if there was more to life than training and competing and taking her pleasure in small doses when she could.
She’d never worried about it before, never given a thought to having a man in her life for anything more than the here and now. But the reaching of her thirty-fifth birthday had made her stop and think. Take a good long look at who and what and where she was. Was a man what she was missing? She hoped not because fixing that wouldn’t be as easy as it sounded. For one thing, she’d seen too many women on the circuit meet a man, fall for him and then suddenly they were out of competition, giving up an exciting career. Why would they give up what they’d worked so hard for just because some man came along? Didn’t they have regrets? Even for a moment?
She wanted one that wouldn’t try to put a halter on her except when—
