Amy “Red” Riding’s Hood by Liz Adams
Amy Riding peered out her second—story bedroom window into the night waiting for Sean. The only one who could save her from a lifetime of loneliness. But was he willing to live his life with her? Or did he want only a short—term love affair? The possibility of Amy being locked in a life of loneliness still hung its coat at the door of her heart.
She laughed at the memory of the day the blacksmith’s son “Vacant” Vincent came to her doorstep.
“Uh.... I want…” was all Vincent could say before grabbing her hand and taking her to the dark corner of his father’s forge. At the time, Amy didn’t care about Vincent’s lack of charm. She had been tired of being a virgin and wanted to know what a cock felt like inside her. Besides, he was handsome enough.
The clumsy way he kissed her lips and guided her hand down his pants was irksome, but bold. An oven of coals burned nearby, and its heat made her drip with sweat as his blind hands rummaged around her chemise. When she felt his hot spear harden in her hand, a fire stirred inside her making her drip in other places. But before he could enter her, his excitement played a cruel trick and left her hand sticky without giving her a chance to experience satisfaction of her own.
A handsome young man, to be sure, but there was much to be said for charm and wit, after all. And much to be said for a man who had the qualities of a good lover. Ever since that embarrassing day, five seasons ago, she became determined to seek out the best lover she could. When rumors surfaced of lycans being great lovers, Amy knew exactly who to charm.
Four weeks ago she sought out to charm Sean at his farm, and found him working shirtless. He was stroking the earth with a hoe, his biceps flexing, a lock of his dark hair arcing over his forehead. Thunderballs! I could watch him forever. After taking a moment to hungrily watch the muscles in his back ripple in the warm sun, she finally called out his name from the road where she stood and waved.
“Well, if it isn’t my old childhood playmate.” He stopped his work and leaned on the hoe, a half—smile slipping across his handsome face.
Without hesitation, Amy sprinted to him across the tender earth and hugged him something fierce. Sean! She sighed in her heart. His hot, solid body pressed against her breasts.
The naked skin of his back warm against her arms and palms, the scent of his manly sweat, she didn’t want to let go. He didn’t let go, either. At least, not at first. His strong arms felt good wrapped tight around her body.
He ended their embrace, leaned back to look her in the face and spoke in his deep voice, “Why, Miss Amy Riding, you’re getting prettier and prettier every time I see you.”

Bear My Fate by Mercy May

“Shit,” I muttered as the old beige Buick rumbled to a stop in the middle of the street, resting at the crest of a hilltop railroad track. It didn’t surprise me, honestly. Not much did these days. I had ran afoul of bad luck for as long as I could remember, and this particular incident was just the icing on the cake.
I climbed out of the car, not panicking, and made my way to the rear of the vehicle. It wouldn’t be the first time I had to push the damn thing up a hill, and I seriously doubted it would be my last. If anything, this trip had been a long series of testing my mettle against the enormous metallic monster my mother had left me in her will. As a curvy southern girl from Georgia, this was just another part of my rearing. Toughing it, mudding it, and getting right to work.
I reached the rear of the car, leaned against it, and braced my legs firmly to the ground. My tennis shoes dug into the hot asphalt, while my white tank—top garnered yet another stain against the vehicle’s dirty exterior. I grunted as I pushed, shoving the car forward with every bit of strength I could muster. The car rolled a few inches before the back wheel caught the track and brought my efforts to a halt. I groaned a bit, standing up and repositioning myself for another attempt. The car lurched forward a bit, hitting the rail, before rolling back against me. I tried a few more times, grunting and panting, until fatigue finally set in.
Between the strain of trying to shove the ancient monstrosity of a car and the constant assault from the mid—western summer sun, my tank top was soaked with sweat and matted against my skin. I put my hands on my knees, feeling the skin just beneath my thigh—high jean shorts, and let out a final gasp of exhaustion before sinking down to my haunches.
“Figures,” I mumbled under my breath. “Figures I’d break down in the middle of no—fucking—where, on top of an impossibly placed hill. What else can go wrong?”

As if on cue, I heard the low hum of something approaching in the distance, and with it the loud singular whistle of an oncoming locomotive. This time I panicked.

Cougar and the Lion by Kristen Strassel

All my friends love Girls’ Night out. They look forward to escaping their kids and mates for a couple hours, not to mention the chance to drink too much wine and let loose. But for me it was just a reminder I didn’t have any of those things to leave behind.
As everyone’s families grew, girls’ night happened less and less. And that was fine with me, it saved me from making excuses not to go. After a while it just got awkward. I don’t know anything about soccer practice, or potty training, or home equity. And I can’t remember the last time anyone asked me if I was seeing someone. Thank Gods. Because then they would try to play matchmaker.
But tonight, Girls’ Night was unavoidable. My younger sister Katera came down from Denver for the weekend and invited her best friends to come out and celebrate with us. There was no bowing out of this one, I was the guest of honor.
Tonight was my fortieth birthday.
Turning forty wasn’t bad at all. I certainly wasn’t old, and I was happy with who I’d become. I might not have the two point five kids or the picket fence, but I love my job as a reporter at the local newspaper, and I have a cute little apartment. Nobody ever guesses that I’m much more than thirty, so I can’t look that bad. All of the cougars in the pride aged well. Say what you want about the extra pounds I’m carrying, but fat trumps wrinkles any day of the week in my book.
“I’m so excited to try this new club!” Kat was trying way too hard to show me a good time tonight, like she’d found out I was terminal instead of forty. “The owners have a club in London, too. I checked out a few years back when I was over there for work.”
Anyone would guess Kat and I were sisters, we looked a lot alike with our long blonde hair and hazel eyes. But she was taller than me and her body was absolute perfection. I envied her, but I also knew how hard she worked to look like that. And it paid off. It had taken her around the world, working as a model, her feline grace photographing beautifully. Now that she was in her thirties, she was actually busier than ever, with a never—ending call to play mommy in commercials.
“Do you think we’ll get in?” I raised an eyebrow as I wiped off some of my blush. Kat’s makeup was perfect, and mine was bordering on streetwalker. Whoops. I hardly ever wore more than the absolute basics unless I was going someplace like this. “I hear that place is super picky. I’m happy just going to dinner, you know. We don’t have to get crazy.”

Werewolf Lust Two by Leslie Hunter
A good bounty hunter knows when to use the correct tools. Right now, that’s a Twinkie. Some look at my size and think, ‘Of Course’. I learned to play into people’s stereotypes about big girls. Yes, it tastes good, but it’s as effective as any gun.
My bounty, Sergio Garcia walked outside of the convenience store. I followed him for the last two hours in the Texas sun and waited. In my business, you couldn’t wait for the perfect time – just less worse. I slid out of the Jeep and made a show of eating the Twinkie.
Sergio glanced in my direction, his shoulders went up, and he frowned. I muffled an “Excuse me” as I passed. His eyes went back toward the road in case any men came in guns blazing. I turned around and pressed the silver barrel of my 44 Magnum against his back.
I pulled his gun from under his shirt. “Hello Sergio. Ready to go back to prison?”
He spun around and knocked the Magnum from my hand. His gun fell as well. The smart thing would have been to shoot right away. After Iraq, I’ve seen too many deaths. Besides, it’s hard to get paid when the bounty’s dead and I didn’t feel like sitting in jail.
He reached down for the gun. I kicked him hard with a Krav Maga kick and his head went back. He fell back toward the dirt and hunched his shoulders while groaning. I kicked his gun away and aimed the gun.
I spoke in Spanish. “Don’t make me kill you.” I tossed the handcuffs and smiled as I ate the rest of my victory Twinkie.
I’ve been in firefights in Iraq and dragged soldiers hit by explosives. Despite that, my heart never beat as fast as it did now. In less than ten minutes, I’d see him again. No photos or grainy video chat, but the real deal.
My eyes went up to a photo of us together just before I shipped out. Skinny, short blond Nash on the left and me next to him. Even then I kept my brown hair short. I had a similar camouflage tank top like the one I’m wearing now. Loose enough to be comfortable during a stake—out but enough to support ‘the girls’.
Maybe I should have dressed up.
It’s not a date.

Isn’t it?

Shared by Her Bears by Desirae Grove

Cold water seeped through the holes in her sneakers: curious slits that appeared a few night into her crossing. Too driven by fear and the need to escape, Angie paid little attention to their unlikely precision: five neat but vicious punctures splayed around her toes. Her mother had thrust the sneakers at her in great haste, assuring Angie this pair would hold up okay, that she wouldn’t wander into Evergreen Heights bare—foot like an animal. The town was only a few miles away now, though how she knew this, she couldn’t be certain. Her parents gave no directions, told her to get off the bus at the very last stop and make for the tree—line. To walk in the icy streams as much as she possible. To rest only when she must, and to never stop moving toward her goal, or they would find her. Catch her. Put her to use.
Angie winced as the cold gripped her feet, but she was getting used to it now. Eighteen days she’d been on foot through the mountains: no map, no compass but the stars and something inside her that compelled her to go on. Thirst and hunger kept her from thinking about her parents back home, or if home even existed any more. She drowned out her memory of their cries with birdsong and her thumping footsteps.
Her full hips had become no less generous in this time, and Angie wondered how her constant trekking and raw food diet had done so little to affect the soft curves that had caused so much trouble back in the city. The burly, whistling men, imploring her to bend over in the street and give them a better look. The amorous boys in school, struggling to hide their attraction behind notebooks in class, their adolescent manhoods responding instinctively to the shy girl with the plump curves and flowing strawberry blonde hair. As a college freshman, she thought now would be the time for her to start dating, to take advantage of this mysterious aphrodisiac effect she had that so worried her parents, and caused them so many fretful nights at the table with her Uncles. Here in the mountains, she missed the attention while she cursed it. If it hadn’t been for her, so many people might be alive right now...

She sniffed the cold night air and caught traces of wood burning, gasoline and black coffee, and blueberry pie. She struck out for the distant glow between the trees, and as the moon rose above her, she finally saw the sign she’d been looking for.

Bearllionaire Stepbrother by Edith Hawkes

Jessica
My life was over; my world as I knew it was ending.
This can’t be happening.
My dad’s face was beaming when he told me the “great” news that would rip me from everything I knew. I’d had a bad feeling it was coming but had kept clinging to the fantasy that he’d change his mind.
“We’re moving to the great outdoors,” he grinned. “Just imagine it: all the fresh clean air, no more traffic! You’re going to love it!”
Did he not know me at all? Me, in the humid woods… with this hair? It was bad enough trying to keep the big ball of untameable frizz straight as it was.
I was a city girl, born and raised amidst all the noise, used to the convenience of everything being so close by… There was no way I could make it out in the wilderness. I needed the big libraries and countless coffee shops. Oh God, did they have Wi—Fi up there? I was starting to panic now. And how on earth would I live without sushi and Chinese takeaways? My tummy rumbled just at the thought. I was going to starve!
“Dad, are you sure this is what you want? You and Alex? Can’t she and Jake move in with us down here?” I looked up at him and saw his smile falter. I felt guilty asking, but what the hell? If you don’t ask, you don’t get. That was my motto.
“Well, yes, technically they could. But Jess, you know they have the timber business up there. It’s not feasible for them to commute each day,” he said, pausing. “And with the magazine I can work from anywhere. It makes sense for us to move in with them. But honey, if you really don’t want to go, I’m sure we can figure something out. Maybe I could go up on the weekends and spend the rest of the time in the city with you?”

Shit. I’ve turned into a selfish brat. And after he’d been through so much already. I couldn’t say no to him now and break his partially mended heart.

Lioness by Candace Blevins

I’d fucked up, and I knew it.
In Lion society, the males rule. Period. It isn’t open for discussion. A woman can never lead a pride. It isn’t like this for all animal groups, but it is for us, and I’d had to come to terms with it.
And then break the rules.
One by one, a group of women werelions had followed me to the fucking middle of nowhere, determined to be autonomous without a man over us. In the wild, if the male screws up too bad, the women can work together to get rid of him.
So, we lived in Trezevant, Tennessee, population eight hundred and fifty nine, if you count the nine werelions as people. There’s zero nightlife, but plenty of woods we can run through.
So, how had I fucked up?
We may not have a normal pride, with a lion we have to submit to and eat after on a daily basis, but we still have an Amakhosi, which is a fancy word for the Lion King. Of the planet. And he lives on the other side of the fucking state.
Except now, he was in my office.
In my defense, I had no idea who he was when he walked in. He’d been shielding his power, and I’d not only refused to show respect, I’d been openly hostile.
Now, I was cowering on the floor in front of him, my arms and legs under me, curled in a ball. Remember tornado drills in school? A lot like that.
“I’m sorry, My King. I had no idea it was you!”
Now, he was throwing so much power in the room, I could barely breathe. My body felt like a huge drum at the bottom of the ocean, caving in from the pressure, and I fought to pull air into my chest.
When he finally pulled his power back, I sucked air into my lungs, lightheaded, but I stayed on the floor, curled in a ball.
“You challenged me.”
“I didn’t know it was you! I’d have never challenged you, if I’d known, Your Majesty.”

“Do you recognize the name Tim Baker?”

Trapped in a Gilded Cage by Cara Wylde

Alma Venus
Avelyn dropped her towel and reached for the blue bathrobe. She caught a glimpse of her body in the mirror and stopped for a second, contemplating it from the top of her head to her dark red toenails. She sighed. “Three more months.” The only thing she couldn’t give up on when she had made her decision almost 10 years before was her hair. It cascaded down her bare back, reddish blond curls that were now heavy with water. She had given up on her slim waist, narrow hips, and smooth thighs. At first, it was difficult, but there was no other way. The only thing that could offer her a sense of control and confidence was changing her body, attitude, beliefs, and even dreams as much as possible, becoming the opposite of what was expected of her. She refused to be like the others girls, thin, shy, and obedient, waiting for Prince Charming to spend a fortune to enjoy their grace and talents.
An impatient knock on the door snapped her out of her thoughts.
“Avelyn, hurry up! I’ve got it.”
Even though Delyse had whispered, Avelyn could hear the excitement in her voice. She threw on her bathrobe, snatched a dry towel for her hair, and unlocked the door.
“Where is it?”
“Right here,” said Delyse. She motioned for her friend to follow her to one of the single beds. They both sat down, and Delyse pulled out a white envelope. Avelyn grabbed it and opened it with trembling hands. She took out the shiny ID card and looked closely at her own picture. Joanna Thorne. She repeated the name two more times, loving the way it rolled down her lips. She hugged Delyse, squeezing her small frame so hard that the girl could hardly breathe for a moment.
“Thank you! Thank you so much!”

“No problem,” smiled Delyse. “I told you my brother would do anything for his little sister.”

The Child Thief by Melissa Snark

“Help me. Please. The child thief has stolen my son,” a woman said, her voice full of desperation. An icy hand closed around Victoria Storm’s arm and the chill of the grave swept through her body. She gasped and halted, turning toward the woman, but remained silent. She took a moment to study the distraught spirit.
The woman had light brown hair and an olive—toned complexion. She wore a mid—thigh length white nightshirt, stained with dried blood. Her legs and feet were bare. The ghost’s appearance mirrored the condition of her body at the time of death—her face and throat bore dark bruises, defensive wounds marred her hands and forearms, and the side of her skull had been bashed in.
The spirit took Victoria’s silence as an opportunity to continue her plea. “Please, Michael is all alone and he’s so scared. I need your help.”
Victoria’s gut clenched, because she had no choice except to refuse. “I’m sorry,” she said. “But I can’t help you.”
Several paces ahead, Jasper turned back toward Victoria. His bright eyes focused on the apparently empty spot before her and his eyebrows rose, disappearing beneath his lank brown bangs. His tongue flickered across his lips, moistening them against the aridness of the winter air. “What’s up?” he asked, eyes bright with curiosity. “Is a ghost here?”
“Shhh.” Victoria shushed him. She cast an anxious glance about her, concerned that their odd behavior would attract the wrong sort of attention. Neither Jasper, nor any of the humans present, could see the dead woman because they lacked Victoria’s gift of spirit sight.
Cheerful holiday decorations lined the streets and storefronts along bustling Central Avenue of downtown Albuquerque. The sidewalks were crammed with holiday shoppers out to take advantage of the clear Saturday afternoon before Christmas. No one so much as spared the two werewolves and the invisible spirit a glance.
“You must help me,” the woman pleaded. “No one can see or hear me.”
At the same time, Jasper said, “What does she want? C’mon, tell me what’s going on!”

Surrendered to the Pack by Anna Craig

Cassie’s entire body trembled in a combination of terror and the undercurrent of an undeniable hunger. Despite the knee—shaking jitters, she forced herself to keep walking. This was her destiny, and she would face it like the strong, self—assured woman she was.

Even if she passed out from sheer panic during it. She would just keep moving in some sort of zombie state. One foot in front of the other, even though she would be in a dead faint. Right.

A tiny giggle erupted from her, drawing a fierce scowl from the huge, imposing, sexier—than—anything—she’d—ever—seen—in—her—life alpha wolf waiting for her. Waiting for her while flanked by his equally huge, equally sexy packmates. The wolves who would now be her packmates. Her masters. The ones who held the future of her family and her entire town in their lethal paws.

The ones to whom she’d just been surrendered as Wicked Mountain’s latest sacrifice in order to keep the peace for at least another century.

“Is something funny to you?” Wicked Mountain Wolf Pack Alpha Trevor Reginald’s deep voice rumbled across the meadow, effectively silencing the background noises of people shifting on their feet, clothes rustling, quiet murmurs as they watched the ancient ceremony play out in the twilight of the longest day of the year. Cassie’s parents stood halfway between her and the wolves, their hopeful faces suddenly masked in utter horror as they stared at their idiot daughter.

Cassie stopped in her tracks, also horrified. Her heart hammered against her chest as a feeling of ice water being slowly poured over her body drenched her in even deeper fear. Oh, shit. She couldn’t alienate them already. They could punish her for being disobedient. She’d heard stories about the women taken by the pack. Some of the stories were less Fifty Shades sexy, more Brothers Grimm deadly. After all, these guys really were the monsters of legend.
“N—no, sir,” she managed to stutter out. Her voice sounded tiny in the appalled silence. “I’m just a little n—nervous. I’m so s—sorry.” She swallowed against the dryness in her mouth. Trying to steady her wire—tight nerves, she managed to utter ceremonial words without tripping
over them. “This is a magnificent honor, and I deeply appreciate your choice in me as a pack surrender.”

He regarded her with a long, unblinking stare. The power and strength behind it hit her with a force like a tsunami. Against her will, she looked at the ground. She wasn’t a werewolf, but his immense powers worked on her regardless. He was about to be her alpha, and she had no choice but to bow to him.

Not to mention, she had no choice but to do whatever he wanted her to do.

Desert Wolf by Anna Lowe

Waking up in someone else’s bed felt strange to Lana. Waking up on the East Coast felt strange too, even though she’d only been away two years. But two years could be a lifetime. Two years could change everything.

She lay under the heavy blanket, listening to the sounds of a New England forest waking up. A chickadee called — once, twice — outside the window. Funny how her ear had come to expect the hectic flutter of a hummingbird instead of the whistle of the forest dweller.

What used to be her norm — crisp mountain mornings, the quiet swish of pine needles over a cabin roof, and the hollow feeling of waking up alone — had all become distant memories. Coming back to the Berkshires was nice, but part of her was already impatient to head home. To Arizona, where she’d found a mate who gave her more than she had ever dared wish for. Love, as vast and truthful as the desert. A new life, a renewed sense of purpose. A future. Lana sighed and snuggled closer to her mate.

A pair of soft lips brushed over hers, and she mumbled in reply. As always, her body came alive at Ty’s touch. She extended her limbs in an irrepressible stretch then folded herself around him. Two years hadn’t dimmed the passion that reared up like a force of nature every time they touched.

“Mmmm. Mate,” was all she got out before Ty surged in with another kiss. A deep, possessive kiss that promised her the day was about to start in the very best way. His hands slid upward along her rib cage, making her body sing like a bird on the first day of spring.

Once an Alpha by Callie McKenna
Prologue
Rocky Mountains, Colorado — 1998

“Wanna hear another scary story?”

I rolled my eyes and grinned as Billie, one of my fellow Girl Scouts, looked around the campfire at all the rest of us with a mischievous gleam in her eyes. She was an outgoing and popular young kid, with stories coming out of her ears. Never failed to be a source of amusement on our camping trips, even though her scary tales were all total bullshit.

“Sure, Billie, go ahead,” one of the other girls said, clasping her hands together in anticipation.
We were mostly all fifteen years old, except for a couple of the younger thirteen and fourteen year olds who’d been allowed to come, and we were camping for part of the summer in the Rockies with our adult troop leaders. I knew being a Girl Scout at my age was considered unforgivably nerdy by a lot of other kids in my school, but I tried not to care too much. I thought it was awesome. We got to go on fun trips and do cool activities, and on top of all that, it taught us to be independent and take care of ourselves. Even out in the wilds.

“Okay, have any of you heard of the Lost Trail? It’s near this town called Creede,” Billie asked.
A few of us nodded. It was a nice place to go hiking and camping. Amazing views. I’d been there once when we were on a ski trip to the mountainous state with my family, and I’d damn near frozen my butt off. It certainly wasn’t the sunny California I was used to.

“Well, that isn’t the real Lost Trail,” she said. “The original Lost Trail was a little further north from here, near a town called Bakewell Springs. The trail got its name from a group of ski hikers who went missing after hiking off it in the 1950’s. Ten of them. All decided to do a winter ski hike up the mountains together, and they were never seen again.”

Captured by the Bear by Vicki Savage

Shae Donovan squinted through her snow—speckled goggles as she hit the gas in her snowmobile. Damn, the winter storm was going from bad to worse. Hopefully she’d be able to find that family before it was too late.

“Come on, girl. You can do it.” The engine sputtered and jerked as she pumped the gas and willed the old machine to go faster.

The thick snow and poor visibility made it so she couldn’t see more than a few paces in front of her. Shae had to rely on her knowledge of the landscape and her instincts as a guide to prevent her from going in circles. Heaven only knew how much longer those parents and little girl would last in such terrible conditions. They didn’t know the land like she did.

Wiping the snow from her control panel, she saw that her fuel gauge was almost on empty. Fuck. She wasn’t going to have enough gas to return to the ski lodge. If the snow kept falling like this throughout the night, she’d die of frostbite right along with that family.

Shae was normally much better at finding lost tourists. In fact, her knack for locating people was legendary at the lodge. It irritated her that these three still hadn’t been found. She had checked all of the paths and all of the marked slopes twice. Where could they be?

Claiming Their Royal Mate by Andie Devaux

Holy crap. How had she accumulated so many clothes that no longer fit?

Barely keeping hold of the bags full of old clothes, Daniella Clark bumped her butt into the door to push it open. Stepping into the hallway, she hit something nearly as hard as the door—something that grunted at the contact. The bags slipped from her fingers to land on the threshold. The hard body she’d run into was attached to a large man blocking her doorway, and her glare didn’t seem to ruffle him at all.

The jerk was always in her way lately.

“Jeez. Way to skulk around my door. What do you want, Owen?” Daniella asked, hating the breathiness in her voice.

Her neighbor stared at her for a moment, and his nostrils flared. Something passed behind his gaze. Something that made her breath catch and tension build between her legs. But just as quickly as it appeared, it was gone. And he shrugged, arrogant mask engaged.

“I was just passing by. Not my fault you didn’t look where you were going.”

The man was seriously aggravating. She could hardly believe they’d been good friends the last year, ever since she’d accidentally locked herself out of her apartment. He’d been kind enough to give her a place to hang out while she’d waited for the building’s superintendent to show up with the key. From then on, they’d hung out at least once a week, sometimes more, depending on her schedule. That is, up until a month ago.

“I’m getting sick of you always being in my way, Owen.” She picked up the bags, needing something to look at that wasn’t her ridiculously hot neighbor. Her attraction to him itself was irritating because he wasn’t her type, even if he did make her weak in the knees. His face was hard, chiseled and memorable, but his features were too strong to be considered traditionally handsome—his nose too Roman and his jaw a little too wide. Not to mention he rarely smiled at her anymore, and she liked men who weren’t afraid to enjoy life.

Heck, that was why she’d liked his company for so long—his easy laughter and quick wit. Over the last month, it was as if he’d turned into a different man. One who didn’t smile much and who was quick to anger.

Hope you enjoy and check out this exciting box set,
