Excerpt:
“What are you doing here?” The angry, male voice came alive from
her nightmare, reiterating his demand from the shore.
Threads of prickling bumps needled her flesh, warning the
dream was real and presented a potential danger in more ways than one. The
imposing man, blessed with magnetic good looks, created a fire in her loins. Squatting
deeper into the cold water, she braved another stealthy glance over her
shoulder. The fast dip in the lake to recover her equilibrium took a hit with
this new, unwanted problem.
Discovered by an agitated stranger, her hope of getting back
to her clothes and into town before dark disintegrated into dust. Instead, she quietly
wished he couldn’t see her naked form. “I’m sorry. Does this river belong to
you?”
“Yes, and all the land around here. You’re invading my
territory.” His authoritarian tone rang of a military commander or local
official who could haul her off to jail, which didn’t happen often in this part
of the human world; the number of law-abiding citizens fell way short of
criminals.
Wiggling around to observe the stranger, she caught the
interest he showed in the trickle of blood on her forearm and dropped her hand
over the wound. “Explains the reason for the tall stone fence around your
property. Because you don’t like people on your land, am I right?”
Noting the granite expression on the immense mountain of a
man’s features, she froze at the uncanny similarity it had to the wolf’s stealthy-icy
gaze when she’d taken flight. Could he be… A wave of fear hit her in the
chest… gasping for breath, she calculated the time she’d been in her human form….
The ability to shift into another and escape was impossible.
It’s too soon to even try.
