Presented by @GoddessFish - A Vixen in Venice by Kate Deveaux

A VIXEN IN VENICE

by Kate Deveaux

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
He’s an art thief on the run...with her heart
Look closer, into Hotel Totally Five Star Venice, where art curator Monique Le Bres has just
walked through the doors of the newly opened swanky luxury hotel to assist with their art
collection.
Alessandro Bonnard, the world-renowned art connoisseur and collector has been sent incognito
to supervise Monique and oversee her acquisitions for the hotel.
Concealing his true identity, Alessandro is intrigued by the art-loving vixen with an appetite for
kinky sex. He pursues Monique, charming her at every turn — taking her to places she’s never
been — both in and out of bedroom.
Monique falls hard for the man who has utterly captured her body and soul. Only to find out he
isn’t who she thought he was after all...he’s an art thief on the run...with her heart.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPTS:

Smiling, the hotel clerk handed her the large gold room key.

“Signorina Le Bres, benvenuti a Venezia.” She welcomed Monique warmly. “Signor Amatus

will be here un momento to escort you to your suite.” The mix of English and Italian words was

enchanting to Monique, so far from the small dirt filled town back in Kansas that she’d dragged

herself out so many years ago where the only foreign language spoken was pig Latin if you

were lucky and grow up on the right side of the tracks. Monique hadn’t even been that lucky, the

rusted out trailer she’d shared with her mother couldn’t have been further from the right side of

anything.

“Grazie.” Monique took the gold key, noting how large and heavy it was in the palm of her hand.

Almost ominous of what lay ahead. No slick electronic keys at this hotel. No, this was one

hundred percent Italian luxury. The key began to heat in her grasp as she glanced around for

the man who was supposed to greet her.

The elevator door dinged, catching her attention.

Monique’s mouth dropped open. A good looking twenty-something man dressed in employee

issued suit exited. His robust laughter had caught her attention with his momentarily flirtation

with a sexy young woman dressed in the hotel uniform that made Monique smirk as the man

patted her ass when he passed. A first rate flirter for sure, she made a mental note to steer

clear.

Monique’s smirk turned into a frown as the man kept walking straight towards Monique.

“There he is, Signor Amatus,” the clerk behind the counter called to Monique while she stood

somewhat transfixed as the flirter approached. He really was young. Could he really be her

supervisor? Not at all what she’d been expecting. Maybe mid twenties if she was generous.

Barely legal age back in the states and good ten to fifteen years younger than her she was quite

sure.

“Ah, Signorina Le Bres...”

“Yes, I am Monique Le Bres.” She extended her hand. He wasted no time sliding it into his and

reaching it to his mouth. Pausing before kissing the back of her palm, his gaze stayed fixed on

hers.

“Incantanto,” his words almost a whisper.

These Italian men were skilled at the art of flirtation; there was no denying that. But the sooner

she made it clear to him that she was all work and no play the better it would be for both of

them.

“I am Donovan Amatus, please allow me welcome to you to Hotel Totally Five Star Venezia. I

am sure you will be molto comfortable here.”

The wicked glint in his eyes made her blush and fume at the same time. “I’m the new art

curator,” Monique scrambled to say something, trying not blurt out what she was really thinking.

That it was actually both flattering and maddening all at the same time to be flirted with by this

young stud with the wandering eyes only moments after her arrival at the hotel.

“I know, si. Art Curator,” he said, releasing her hand but not before running it lightly over his lips.

“I will be your liaison while you are here, answer any questions you have. Work with you side by

side. Fianco a fianco,” he repeated the words in Italian, his tone so intimate that she was lost for

a moment as she studied his nametag.

Donovan Amatus, Del controllo qualitĂ .

Quality Control Manager. A vague memory of her letter of employment and that name stuck

in her head but she was damned if she could reconcile the young man in front of her with

her supervisor. Surely there had been some mix up. This young man couldn’t possibly be

supervising her and the forty million euro budget the CEO had entrusted her with.

“The key Signorina?” he prompted.

Speechless she just stood there.

“La chiave, the key, per favore?” He repeated and then reached to take the key from her grip.

“Follow me Signorina Le Bres.”

“Oh, please call me Monique.”

“You Americans are so friendly,” he said with a smile as he led her toward the elevator, placing

his hand firmly around her waist.

Summoning her most professional demeanor she slipped from his hold and stepped into the

elevator.

“I am sure you will be very happy working here at the hotel Totally Five Star Venezia.” He said

as he punched the fifth floor button.

Monique tried to focus on what she was there for, her dream job and not the leering eyes of her

so-called supervisor. “Yes, I’m sure I will. Mr. Conroy’s letter of employment said I could start to

work tomorrow.”

“Assolutamente,” he confirmed. “Tomorrow. But first I show you your room, bene?”

Archangel by @JamieRSalisbury Presented by @GoddessFish

ARCHANGEL

by Jamie Salisbury

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Archangel. A musical angel hiding in the dusty, smoke-filled London clubs, she performs with
reckless abandon. Few know the woman behind the mask she adorns.
Mary Tudor, twin sister to Amadeus Tudor - a well-known rock star- has all but given up her
up and coming photography business to become the personal photographer, and fiancé to
Daniel Kennedy. Daniel, a world renowned violinist, is one of the few who knows Mary's secret.
Together they scheme to devise a way for her to fulfill a secret dream.
Postponing their wedding until after Daniel's much anticipated European tour, Mary juggles
many jobs. One however alludes her every month. Motherhood.
Making unannounced, surprise appearances during Daniel's tour, the mysterious Archangel
rules the concert stage. Suddenly everyone wants to know who this masked woman is. Fans
clamor for more, the press want to know every detail about her, and a few others are sure
Daniel Kennedy is quite aware at who this phenomenon is. And if that weren't enough drama, a
sinister enigma from her brother's past threatens both her future and her life.
Will Archangel's identity be revealed as planned, or will the chaos of Amadeus' past catch up to
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPT:

Proudly I stood at the back of the hall, and watched as the show continued. By the look on

his face I could tell he was in absolute heaven. Daniel was a perfectionist, and tonight it was

evident by the audience's reactions.

But tonight...tonight there was going to be a huge surprise for the crowd that had come to see

this phenomenon known as Daniel Kennedy. Tonight Archangel's going to make a special

appearance...though her entrance would be nothing like Danny and I planned.

In retrospect I probably should have made my entrance according to plan. Tucked up on stage

and appearing through a cloud of smoke. To be honest? That made it look pre-arranged and not

spur of the moment like my walking through the audience did. This was Archangel's debut, and

it was going to be in typical Archangel fashion. Unscripted.

At just the exact moment, I began heading towards the stage. Down the aisle between the

people. It was an old trick the late Italian composer, Niccolo Paganini, one of Danny's classical

idols had used in his day. Daniel himself used it, and now I was. It worked. It got the audience's

By now Danny and his stage people had picked up on my change of plans and had a spot

directed on me as I strutted towards him. He was now watching me as he played. I detected a

smirk on his face. He knew me well enough to know when it came to Archangel that I was in

As I reached the front of the stage, I turned towards one of the two sets of stairs located at

either side. Staying focused on the stairs, I pranced past him. I knew not to look at him, fearing

I'd trip and ruin everything. The man affected me in just that way. Made me crazy, but then I was

We'd picked a lively pop tune which had been one of the favorites on Danny's previous tour and

CD. Keeping everything upbeat, a Paganini favorite was the second choice for the evening.

Walking across the stage toward him, I sucked in a breath as I seductively smiled at him. As we

ended the first piece, Danny took my free hand to introduce me to the audience. He squeezed

"Having fun? You're doing awesome, sweet. And by the way, you look ravishing."

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. One randomly drawn winner via Rafflecopter will receive a $25 Amazon or Barnes and Noble gift card. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

How to Kill Your Boss is only $0.99 during the month of January. Pick up your copy today!

When Tatum’s daydreams of murder become a reality, all fingers point to her.

In Tatum Wood’s opinion, murdering her boss on a daily basis within the safety of her thoughts is better than therapy. Until he takes a swan dive off a building and all evidence points to her. Thank goodness she has Franklin Reed. Her mysterious, overprotective and drop-dead gorgeous coworker is all too eager to play hero. With two attacks in her building and her stalker with a penchant for roses, Franklin’s injection into her life couldn’t have come at a better time.

As Tatum and Franklin scramble to discover who’s behind the murder, secrets are unearthed that question his motives...as well as his identity.

Enjoy an excerpt:

“Who are you?” I swiveled to face him.

His grim expression softened. Barely. “You know who I am.”

“Who are you?” I asked again, more a demand than a question.

“The man who keeps saving your ass.” He looked my way, and I got my first glance at his face. The skin surrounding his eye boasted several shades of purple and blue. His nose definitely didn’t look right, and three large scratches stretched from his left eye to below his cheekbone. Not bad for my first shot at kicking someone’s ass. Instinct urged me to reach over and offer comfort. I tucked my hand under my leg to keep it from such betrayal.

“Why were men shooting at you?” I asked, unable to cloak the seething anger in my tone.

“They weren’t.”

“Now you’re not making sense.”

“You have to trust me.”

“How in the world can you ask me to do that? Why is there a collage of me on your wall?”

Franklin’s lips drew into a tight line. The muscles in his jaw protruded.

“Classified?” I asked, fed up with the way the conversation was going.

“Yes.”

My pressure gage blew. I buried my face in my hands and screamed. “Take me back to the police station. I can’t be near you. I’d rather rot in a cell.”

“I’m afraid I can’t do that.” His voice remained calm.

I pulled on the door handle. “I’ll jump out if you don’t start talking. Why were men shooting at you?”

“They weren’t aiming for me, Killer. You were the target.”

Nancy Fraser and the Muse Presented by @GoddessFish

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Like most authors, Nancy Fraser began writing at an early age, usually on the walls and with crayons or, heaven forbid, permanent markers. Her love of writing often made her the English teacher’s pet, which, of course, resulted in a whole lot of teasing. Still, it was worth it.

When not writing (which is almost never), Nancy dotes on her five beautiful grandchildren and looks forward to traveling and reading when time permits. Nancy lives in Atlantic Canada where she enjoys the relaxed pace and colorful people.

What's your favorite book you've written?
It’s not just a book, but a series of novellas. Called the Golden Decade of Rock and Roll, the first 4 are already out and story #5 (Dream Lover), comes out in December. The stories are set from 1955-1964 and the titles are all Rock and Roll song titles from each of the ten years. The covers are beautifully vintage and include a jukebox and record background. The stories themselves reflect the romance of the time period.

What was the hardest book to write and why?
Actually the one I’m working on now has been an emotional rollercoaster and it’s taking me far longer than it should. It’s the third book in a proposed five-book, co-authored series of post-Civil War romances. What’s making it nearly impossible to complete is that my writing partner passed away in May from cancer. I want desperately to finish the book in her honor, as well as the rest of the proposed series. However, sitting down and actually writing has been difficult.  I’m pretty sure Patti’s up there teaching the angels how to write romance and cursing me out because I haven’t finished the book!

What tips would you give a new writer?
This is a question I love to answer. First of all, develop a thick skin and do it quickly. Also, accept the fact that there will be things you’ll need to let go. It’s inevitable that your editor is going to ask you to change the one scene you thought was perfect. Get good (and fast) at promotion even before your book comes out. Social media is an absolute (we barely had email when I started writing). However, it can also be a huge time-suck if you don’t learn how to manage it before the book comes out. And, finally, organize everything. Develop a separate “media” folder for every book so that everything you need (tweets, FB posts, bio, buy links, blurb and excerpt) is in one document. Your bio should also change slightly with each book. Keep the beginning the same but tailor the ending to fit the book you’re promoting (e.g., if your story has a family aspect talk about your children/grandchildren or pets; if your story is historical talk about your love of travel or the timeperiod). It doesn’t have to be a long drop in, just a sentence or two.

How much if any influence do you have on cover art
It depends on the publisher. I actively write for 4 different publishers at the moment. They all use a “cover art” form and I do my best to be as detailed as possible, including downloading images and including them when I turn in the paperwork. The very sexy, award winning cover of my co-authored historical, The Lawman’s Agreement, was actually created from an image I’d purchased through a stock company and included with my form. I also worked with the same cover artist on a contemporary months later and, again, she used my choice of photo. With my R&R novellas, I worked with the cover artist to develop the recurring them (jukebox and record) and then the artist chooses the character to add to the cover. The cover design for The Muse was exactly as I’d invisioned the characters. Then, on top of that, the cover artist blew me away with the sepia tone and splash of red lipstick.

What are your current projects?
Obviously finishing the third book in our post-Civil War series is first on my agenda. I’ve also signed a contract with Decadent Publishing to do another 1920’s erotic romance. The Mysterious Mrs. Pennybaker is based on a true story of a woman who worked as a spy during WW I with a lot of steamy sex (and two men) thrown in for good measure.
As well, the sixth book in my R&R series is due soon. AND, I am also working on a vintage historical/rework of a Grimm fairytale for Decadent Publishing’s Beyond Fairytales line.

Describe your writing style in ten words or less.
The creativity black hole: Grandma’s “just” writing. She can babysit.

Personal Questions

What did you want to be when you grew up?
Exactly what I am, a published author. Dreams do come true if you’re patient and/or stubborn.

Do you ever wish that you had an entirely uncreative job, like data entry or working in a factory?
Been there, done that. I’ve done everything from waitressing to training customer service agents for call centers. No thanks. I’ll take writing, even if it’s only a FB post, any day!

If you came with a warning label, what would it say?
Warning: prone to fits of weirdness. May require straight jacket or laptop in order to restore sanity.

What is your favorite comfort food?
Homemade banana pudding.

If you could have three wishes granted, what would you wish for?
Good health for myself and my family. A NYT bestseller and a sexy, younger man who appreciates a mature woman.

The Muse
by Nancy Fraser

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Privileged Hyde Park socialite, Susan Leland, wants more from life than being a rich man’s daughter. She wants excitement, daring, but most of all, she wants to explore her sexuality. A chance meeting with artist Evan Forrester, a man she’d met purely by ‘accident’ months earlier, leads Susan on a journey of sensual discovery that not only includes the handsome Evan, but also sultry torch singer, Holly Winters. Together, the singer and the artist uncover Susan’s utmost desires and unleash her inner vamp.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPT:

Susan tapped lightly on the solid oak door leading to Evan Forrester’s downtown loft. The building was old, in parts dilapidated and smelling of mold. The three-story climb to his studio had been precarious, with more broken stairs than good ones. The urge to turn and flee ran rampant through her thoughts. She still couldn’t believe she was actually taking him up on his suggestion.

She hesitated. She hadn’t pictured him being destitute, a starving artist unable to afford something better than this run-down building. As hard as she tried to ignore her inner voice, she couldn’t hide her concern for the safety of her situation. Eager to be out of the dark, damp hallway, she knuckled the door a bit harder, stopping just short of actually using her balled-up fist to pound the old wood.

From behind the barrier, she could hear the shuffle of footsteps, and held her breath in anticipation. When the door opened, she let her breath out on a sigh of relief.

“You’re here,” Evan said, his gaze flaring as if she’d caught him by surprise.

“You said one o’clock,” Susan reminded him. She made a rather deliberate show of staring at her bare wrist. “It’s five minutes of, according to my watch.”

He stepped back and allowed her inside. Unlike the dark entryway and corridors leading to the third floor, his loft was filled with color, vivid splashes of paint adorning walls full of original artwork. Windows rose from floor to ceiling, allowing the early afternoon sun to shine through, unimpeded by draperies of any kind. Sparsely furnished with nothing more than a few chairs and a small kitchen table. Susan wondered what lay behind each of the three doors along the back wall.

“Truthfully, I didn’t think you’d show.” He waved his hand in a circle, the arc encompassing the entire open living area. “I don’t get many Hyde Park society girls in my studio.”

She raised her chin a notch. “Whether you realize it or not, I’m not like most Hyde Park girls.” When he didn’t comment, she reminded him, “You said I could make up for the accident by posing for you. I’m here to make amends for—as you put it—the pain and suffering my recklessness caused.”

He chuckled, the teasing lilt of his voice drawing her attention to where he stood. It was then she realized he was dressed in little more than a pair of tight- fitting denim rousers and an unbuttoned shirt. A sparse patch of short curls adorned his well-muscled chest, trailing downward to disappear inside the waistband of his pants. His feet were bare and his dark hair tousled, as if she’d awoken him from a sound sleep. His second laugh, this one much heartier than the first, told her she’d been caught staring. A sudden wave of heat rushed her cheeks. Her pulse raced.

“As I said last night, I don’t do formal portraits.”

His words drew her gaze back to his face, his mouth, the fullness of his lips. She raised her head and nodded. “Let’s just get this over with, please.”

He crooked his finger and motioned for her to follow. “Bathroom’s through there, if you need the facilities.” He opened the door to the middle room. “This is my bedroom. You can change in here, if you’d like. There’s a dressing gown hanging on the back of the door.”

“Change into what?” she asked. Her throat suddenly as dry as a pile of cotton batting, she slipped out of her lightweight coat and cloche and laid them at the foot of the bed.

Evan shook his head; his eyebrows arched and wagged teasingly. “Into as very little as you’re comfortable with, Miss Leland. I prefer totally nude, but if you’d like to leave your fancy drawers on, I can use my imagination.” He motioned toward the wooden table in the corner of the room. “There are some props, jewelry and the sort, over there, if you’d like to doll yourself up.”

“Anything else?” She did her best to put a sarcastic bent to her question yet feared her voice trembled too much to make the right impression.

He lowered his gaze from her face, across her body, down her legs, settling at last on her ankles. The intensity of his perusal made her toes curl.

“Take off those shoes and put on a pair with ankle straps. Preferably black. There should be a pair in the closet that will fit you.” He turned toward the door, stopping to add, “My studio is in the next room over. I’ll prepare a fresh canvas. Don’t take forever. I have someone coming at three.”

EXCERPTS

Opening the door, she steps onto the patio and smiles at Eryk. Her eyes are drawn to some movement behind him and she looks up to see Chase walking in from the woods. He is wearing his pants low on his hips and no shirt. Her breath catches as she notices his rippling muscles and the light traces of a six pack on his abs. When her eyes finally roam up to his face, she feels her cheeks heat up. His self-satisfied smile tells her he saw her checking him out.

Eryk clears his throat. “Good morning.”

Violca swears she must be beet red. She smiles at Eryk. “Morning, I just wanted to invite you guys in for eggs and sausage.”

Scott peaks his head out of the tent. “Did you say sausage?”

“Yep, do you want to join us?”

“Hell yeah,” Scott replies, crawling out from the tent.

Violca’s eyes widen. Scott is also in only a pair of jeans, no shirt, and Violca smiles thinking Linda and the girls would be mad to find out that she is the first to see him with his shirt off. She hears a growl and turns to see Chase watching her. “Be careful, I think there is an animal close by,” she says, wondering where that sound came from. “It shouldn’t be too much longer.”

Marcus Dionysius, a Nephilim working for Heaven, has one mission—to prevent Hell’s beauty from stealing souls meant for the higher plane. But he soon realizes he’s met his sexual match. She’s naughty enough to tempt his senses, but her innocence means he can’t walk away when she needs him most.

Working together to discover who’s snatching souls from Heaven, they realize the true danger is falling in love.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT
Raven looked over at him. “Marcus, this is the coroner, Doctor Hill. Doc, this is my new partner, Detective Marcus Dionysius.”
Marcus extended his hand to the doctor, but he just paced back and forth, ignoring the proffered handshake. “Oh, my dear, you shouldn’t see this.”
“Doc, I’m a detective. There isn’t much I haven’t seen.” Raven’s no-nonsense tone had no effect on the doctor. “No, dear, not this time.” He took her by the elbow and led her a few feet away from the body. Shaking his head, he continued, “This time it’s too personal. You don’t need to see this.” He pointed at the body on the ground. “It’s Stephen, my dear.”
Marcus watched shock flash across her face for a moment before she got control again. She wasn’t expecting to see her late partner. She hadn’t done this, but that didn’t clear her of the other attacks.
The captain was sleazy. Everyone in heaven and hell knew it. And everyone thought that because Raven worked so closely with him, she was part of his plan. Marcus hoped the sexy succubus wasn’t connected with hell’s mess. He moved closer to the body.
Doctor Hill glanced at him and stopped talking.
Clearing his throat, Marcus said softly to Raven, “I’ll handle this if you’re not up to it. The captain can assign another detective to work the case with me.”
Raven looked up at him, anger flaring in her eyes as she answered, “What do you think I am? Some fragile female who can’t do her job?”
Stone by Rie Warren Presented by @GoddessFish
Welcome to the cover reveal for STONE: AT YOUR SERVICE an erotic romance by Rie Warren, coming September 25th to a book retailer near you! This post is part of a tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions.
Rie will award a Carolina Bad Boys swag pack including an ARC of Stone to a randomly drawn winner during the tour via the rafflecopter at the end of this post (International winner).
Check out this gorgeous cover and find out more about the upcoming release:
And here's what the story is about!
One bad boy mechanic, one sexy romance writer, and an impossible situation. Hell on wheels? More like hell in high heels.
Bad boy mechanic Josh Stone likes to get his hands dirty any way he can—the filthier, the better. Ever since his wife walked out on him and their young son, he’s only had room in his heart for two loves: the kid and cars.
Roped into playing his best buddy’s gay boyfriend during a romance writers convention, the player meets the girl who’s gonna rock his world. Leelee Songchild. Shy, bashful, beautiful Leelee who blushes at the drop of a hat yet writes hardcore smut to rival Josh’s backlist of Penthouse Forum.
The only problem is his hands are tied. Josh can’t stab his old friend/fake lover in the back even though all he wants to do is take luscious Leelee to bed, and maybe, love her. When the truth comes out, all hell breaks loose. Too bad romance is just for books.
WARNING: Uncompromisingly hot sex, hilarious hijinks, and heartfelt romance—STONE is a triple threat.
How about a sneak peek to whet your appetite?
Leelee. Holy. Jesus. Christ. Why is she doin’ this to me?
“What the hell are you wearin’?” I asked before my mouth caught up with my brain.
“Oh! I don’t usually dress like this. It’s for the convention.” Peering down at herself, she smoothed one hand along her hip and angled her ankle behind her.
She continued talking, but I was done listening because every ounce of my attention was aimed at the disarming display—disarming display? I need to stop readin’ Nicky’s shit—of . . . hotness in front of me. This dress was going into the Handjob Hall of Fame. V-neck, off the shoulder, down to mid-thigh, rose-colored. Leelee’s hair was twisty and curly and perfect for grabbing while I rode her hard from behind. And the shoes on her feet should be outlawed in all fifty states for being unlawful very-fucking-hot violations. They were a deeper shade than her dress, spiky, and showing sexy toe cleavage.
Rie is the badass, sassafras author of Sugar Daddy and the Don’t Tell series–a breakthrough trilogy that crosses traditional publishing boundaries beginning with In His Command.
A Yankee transplant who has traveled the world, Rie started out a writer—causing her college professor to blush over her erotic poetry without one ounce of shame. Not much has changed. She swapped pen for paintbrushes and followed her other love during her twenties. From art school to marriage to children and many a wild and wonderful journey in between, Rie has come home to her calling. Her work has been called edgy, daring, and some of the sexiest smut around.
@GoddessFish Presents Last of the Red Hot Cowboys @Tina_Leonard
Last of the Red Hot Cowboys
by Tina Leonard
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:
A sexy cowgirl gives a rugged Texas loner the ride of his life in USA Today bestselling author Tina Leonard’s seductive new series.

Ava Buchanan dreams of a career on the rodeo circuit. Winning a spot on a one-of-a-kind team would be her ticket to the life she’s always wanted. Ava won’t let anyone stand in her way—not even a stubborn cowboy whose slow-molasses smile and red-hot swagger set her senses aflame . . . and whose talents as a trainer could make her a star. Rodeo might be a man’s game, but Ava knows the right woman’s touch can tame the wildest heart.

Trace Carter believes his mayor’s plan to raise the town’s profile has disaster written all over it, and he won’t allow the Hell’s Outlaws Training Center to be dragged into the fiasco. Yet watching Ava’s delectable body on horseback proves too much of a temptation, and his fantasies stray to her riding skills outside the arena. Soon Trace is fighting like hell to rein in his unbridled desire for the petite brunette before it becomes a passion hotter than the Texas sun.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt One:
“It doesn’t matter,” Trace said, glancing over at Ava.  “Don’t let the Horsemen guilt you.  They’re working an angle, and it’s always a crooked one.”
 “That makes no sense.”  Ava gave him a look of disgust, which he intercepted with good humor.  He was just happy to have her in his truck.  Frankly, she’d come with him more easily than he’d thought she would.  Especially after he’d overheard Fallon ask her out.
That alone had caused Trace to shift his gears.  He hadn’t really planned on dragging Ava off.  The plan had been to talk rationally to her, help her put her horse in the barn.  Hell, he hadn’t had a plan.
Until he’d heard Fallon make his boneheaded offer—and split-second, Trace had known that just couldn’t stand.
“It makes sense to me.  You don’t want to hang out with them, Ava.  Trust me.”
“I don’t know if I trust you at all.  You seem shadier than they do.”
He shook his head.  “Just some friendly advice.  You don’t know the pitfalls of Hell.  Friends help each other out.”
“Do they?”
He felt her glare and grinned.  Such a sweet, sexy body, so much sass.  “Last I checked, yes.”
“You need to sell your idea to Judy.  Not me.”
“You let me handle Judy.”
“Fine.”  She waved her hand dismissively.
“You don’t really like me much, do you?”
Ava looked at him, her dark-green eyes gazing at him curiously.  “You’re arrogant and short-tempered.  You didn’t want to give us a shot in the first place, and this is the second time you’ve put me in your truck to twist my arm.  Did I miss what I’m supposed to like?”
“Now that you put it like that, I realize I haven’t given you much to be impressed with at all.  Let me fix this snag.”
“Go right ahead.”
He turned his truck toward his barns to put her horse away.  “If I train you, you’ll be a helluva rider.”
“I’m a helluva rider now.”
“Yeah, but when I get done with you, you’ll be a badass helluva rider.”
“Why?  Why are you suddenly so motivated?”
He laughed, parked the truck.  “Maybe I hate to see a nice girl getting taken advantage of by the Horsemen.”
“I’m not being taken advantage of.”
“I meant Judy.”  He grinned, enjoying himself.
“It doesn’t matter.  You’re not that kind of guy.”
“Unselfish?  Sure I am.”  He went around to open her door.
She slid out of the truck.  “Considerate.  You’re not considerate enough to try to help us out.  Your ego may be involved because you’re competitive.  But not considerate or unselfish.”
He grabbed her hand, turned her to face him.  She’d been sassing him with those pink lips for a few days now, and a man could only take so much.
He kissed her, long and slow and sweet, taking his time since she didn’t protest.  She felt better than he remembered, even in his wildest fantasies, which he’d had plenty of concerning her.  He was dying to move his hands to her waist, circle it, palm her sexy fanny.  Told himself it was too fast, and too fast never got a man anywhere.
Her lips moved under his, returning his kiss, surprising him.  Had she just moved a fraction closer?  She seemed to melt against him, surrendering, and Trace’s world spun at all the magical wonder suddenly opening to him.
Somewhere a truck door slammed.  Ava gasped, moved away from him.  Stared at him, blinking, then silently went to unload her horse.
He followed, helping her unlock the trailer.  She unloaded Mack, walking him to the barn.
“Go away,” she told Trace.
That was it?  He’d given her a kiss to melt the hardest heart, and she was telling him to drop dead?  “Hey,” he said, “don’t freak out.”
“Do I look freaked out?”  She walked her horse inside the barn, checked that Mack had fresh, cool water and plenty of fresh hay.  “This is the face of annoyed.”
That wasn’t a woman’s typical response to his kissing.  “I’m sorry.  I jumped the gun.”
“You jumped more than the gun, buster.”  She put her horse into a stall, checked the hay, filled the water, brushed past him.
He followed her as she sashayed toward her own beat-up blue truck she’d driven from Virginia.  “Ava.”
“What?”  She moved a mountain of paper and horse stuff from the front seat to the back.
“Can you forget that happened?”
“Easily.”  She got in her truck, switched the engine on, rolled down the window.  “I already have.”
He jumped back as she peeled away, shredding his gravel drive.  Trace grinned.
She might try to forget, but that kiss was going to last him a while.
It had to.  He wasn’t touching the lady again—she was going to have to make the next move.
