Excerpt:

Her eyelids had just begun to flutter closed when the phone rang. Jessica jumped, sending Chaz flying across the sofa with a hiss. "I'm sorry, baby. Mommy was just startled." The cat narrowed his eyes at her but slinked back into her lap without protest.

She didn't recognize the number on the caller ID. "Hello?"

"Hey, Jessica. I'm so sorry I didn't call you back earlier. I was swamped at work."

No way. Trevor? "Umm. That's okay. I was pretty busy, too." I'm such a liar. Oh, well. He doesn't need to know that. She pushed Chaz onto the floor and he landed with a grunt. Such an ungraceful cat. She stood and paced her small living room, waiting for him to speak.

"So, it was good to see you this morning. You looked amazing."

"Thanks." Her voice squeaked. "You, uh...haven't changed a bit."

His melodic chuckle rang in her ear. "Thank you. I try."

She giggled and put a hand over her mouth to stop herself. She would not get her hopes up again. Yeah, right.

"So, Jessica." Her knees went weak at the sound of her name coming from his lips. "I really wanted to take you out to dinner. To spend some time with you, but..."

Yep. Here it comes. The big letdown.

"But I’m swamped for the next few days."

"Oh, that's okay. It's really not that big of a deal. I—"

"Yes," he interrupted her. "It is. I want to see you."

Romance Genre - A Commercial for the Big Game

Some of you have probably heard about the new promo from Intuit. Where one lucky small business can win a commercial for the Super Bowl.

My publisher The Wild Rose Press has entered the contest and is actively seeking votes.

Well, no, the authors for the company are actively seeking votes. I have been with them from the beginning. They published my first book "Black Dragon's Blood."

I have to say they are a wonderful place to be published. I have met the one of the owners Rhonda Penders several time and learn so much from her. I have not had the pleasure of meeting RJ Morris, but appreciate all the work she does for the company.

My editor, Diane Carlile is not only a wonderful editor but a friend.

Lisa Dawn, the marketing and promotion director has come up with a number of wonderful ideas to help sell more books.

As you can see they are a small business where the author know the people working for them.

I, personally, would also love to see a commercial which supports the romance genre. For some reason the rest of the world doesn't respect the hard work we put into writing our stories and I'd like to show them during the biggest game of the year that we are devoted to our craft and deserve a place with the big boys.

So I am asking for your vote for Wild Rose Press. Let the world know that small romance publishers rock.

Thanks and here's to seeing the commercial in January.

Now, here's a Hunk

Sexy Comments & Profile Graphics

Lots of writers use pictures to help develop a hero.

It can offer some inspiration on those days you don't want to write.

Think you would enjoy reading about him?

I believe he is perfect for the Deputy of Walker county Texas.

Add a cowboy hat, transfer back a century and he could be the hero of a book in Naked Bluff, Texas.

Playing with the idea of him having to protect a girl who is being stalked.

The questions are simple -

How can he resist this young filly when she is living in the same house with him.

Doesn't help that she was shot while in his care - not life threatening but now he has to help with some basic functions like getting dress and undress.

Can't let any of the other men do it ...she is after all his responsibility.

So how long will this hot stallion be able to resist?

I'm still in the plan stage of this story but the picture above has me thinking of all sorts of interesting ideas.

How about you what would you like to have this man do to his charge?

A Friend's #Free Read - @AuthorTinaGayle

I love free reads and like to share them with my blog followers. Hope you enjoy this one.

Blurb -

Sylvia Donovan is emotionally wounded from the unexpected death of her husband and still haunted by their last conversation: his request for a divorce and his confession of love for another woman.  Her husband gone, her only daughter off to college, Sylvia faces the challenges of learning to live alone and move on with her life.
Vince Wilshire, enchanted with Sylvia, is more than willing to do what it takes to capture the heart of the hurting and untrusting Sylvia.
Can he help her forget the past and make her believe in love again?

Excerpt
The door clicked open.
Wrapping his hand around the handle to keep from reaching for her, Vince Wilshire shoved the door wide. "Are you ready for this?"
Her face mere inches from his, he noticed a brief flash of panic in her eyes before Sylvia Donovan lifted her chin and stepped through the entrance. "Nothing I haven't seen before. Or probably won't see again."
He understood she meant the task of doing a job, but for some reason his brain registered the sexual implications of the comment. "Oh, man, you're brutal. Some things you know get better with age.”
Matching his steps to hers, he wrapped an arm around her shoulder and leaned in close. He whispered beside her ear, "It's all a matter of knowing how to use what you've got."
She shrugged and shifted away from him, eyeing him with a raised brow. "Yes and some people are amateurs, Mr. Wilshire. You, I take it, are an old pro who knows how to wield your sword with the best of them."
Laughter bubbled up into his throat. He marveled at her sassy tone and didn't relinquish his grip. "I must admit I’m very good at a few chosen tasks."

Thanks, Tina for sharing.

Wish you the best,

Anita

Smart Woman's Quote on Fame

"When I started out, I didn't have any desire to be an actress or to learn how to act. I just wanted to be famous."

Katharine Hepburn

So what is it do you want?

Are you will to work toward that goal?

Or do you feel as if you can never reach your heart desire because you have to many other responsibilities?

This is an interest question because so many authors struggle with this concept. They want to write but are trying to find the time between raising a family and working. I know a number of them are staying up late or getting up early to have the time to work in a few minutes to write.

What about you? What is it that you want to do, but feel you can't? Does it need a large chuck of time or can you break it down?

Personally, I've learned that by giving myself time to do what I want to do, I can give more to everyone else. We all have to have goals and if it takes the help of your family to make it happen, then think how they'll learn to reach for their own dreams.
