Fall Hook, Line and Sinker for These Awesome Books #MFRWAuthor

Hi everyone,

Today I'm doing the Book Hook Hop with Marketing for Romance Writers.

Let me say that this is an awesome group, that I really enjoy being a member.

My Hook

What would it hurt to take Logan home with her? If she could perhaps persuade him to help her instead of having to ask her in-laws, then she might finally be free of their constant presence in her life.

Or was she playing with fire?

Logan stopped in front of her. “If you’ll just lift your arms, I’ll slide your dress over your head and you can button it right up.”

She studied him. Could she resist him? If she tried, then... A proposal developed in her mind. “Why don’t you come home with me? I’ll need some help taking care of my farm, until I can get around again.”
“It’d give me a place to stay until Zack and your friend return.” Logan lifted her dress again as if he’d already devised the plan before she even thought of it.

Still uncertain he understood what she was offering, she continued, “How much is it going to cost me?”

In Too Deep - Blurb

On the banks of the Trinity River, Sadie Pepperman is looking for a chance to escape the demands of her in-laws. With her husband’s dead, they want her to marry her brother-in-law so they can take control of her farm.
Suddenly, the peace of the day is shattered when her best friend steps too far into the river. Rushing to save her, Sadie meets a handsome stranger that ignites her dormant lust. She sees her friend rescued by a steamship and backs away from Logan Jansen, only to turn her ankle.
The agonizing pain leaves Sadie with the inability to walk. Needing help, she offers Logan a place to stay if he’ll help with the chores on her farm. With his agreement, Sadie adds another problem to her list. Now, not only does she have to worry about how to bring her crops in from the field and run her farm alone but she also has to fight her attraction to Logan.
Can Sadie end her in-laws’ interference in her life,
run her farm alone,
and give love another chance?

Excerpt:

Spies Kate Cavanaugh and Matthew Thatcher have just escaped a prison in Naples and are looking for a way out of the city and away from their pursuers.

Naples, Italy
April 1815

Kate pressed against his back, her heart beating a tattoo into the muscles there.  He felt a corresponding ripple in other parts of his body and swallowed to focus on the task at hand.  They needed to get away from the prison and the authorities that had brought them there.  They needed to find a place to hide until they could regain their composure and perhaps find some suitable clothes for Kate, even if she did make a fetching bar wench.
“Get in the cart.”
Thatcher looked quickly to his right at the cart that had just passed them as if the voice had come from the olives themselves.  But knowing that could not be right, he looked up to the bench.  A small, squat man, thick through the middle and thin at the limbs hovered like a forgotten presence on the worn bench of the rickety cart.  Surely, it was him who had spoken the words, for in the bustle around them, no other person was close enough to utter such words with such clarity for Thatcher to hear.
And the man had spoken in English.
Thatcher turned long enough to scoop Kate into his arms, and together, he launched them into the back of the cart, landing precariously between the rows of olive crates.  The cart lurched forward before his body settled onto the boards of the cart, and Kate’s unbelievable warmth came to rest against the full length of his body.  He let out a rush of air that had nothing to do with escape and possible pursuit.  It was a rush of pure male lust that exited his lungs and with it, his last hope of keeping his hands off of the woman who now lay sprawled across his body.
She struggled against him, likely trying to gain purchase and find a space for herself where there was none in the cart.  Thatcher stilled her with his hands a little too far down on her hips, the tattered skirts of her costume having ridden up to her knees, trapping her legs between his.  Her head came up, and he stared into hazel eyes, murky with a mystery he could not wait to solve.
“Better relax, my friend.  I think we’re going for a ride,” he said, letting his hands slip just a little more down her hips.
And that was when he saw it.  The flash of responding desire in those hazel depths that brought a corresponding flicker from his own awareness.
She wanted him.
She may not know that she wanted him, but there, pressed against each other between crates of olives in a cart that was likely to collapse before safely rescuing them away from their captors, driven by a man they did not know and could possibly have nefarious connections, Matthew Thatcher knew that a lusty bar wench wanted him.  And not just any lusty bar wench.
Katharine Cavanaugh, the Countess of Stirling.

And for the first time in days, he smiled.

Who's Telling This Story - Help at @WildRosePress

POV - is basically who is telling the story.

This according to a blog at The Wild Rose Press. http://behindthegardengate.blogspot.com/
is why most manuscripts get rejected.
Why?
Because new authors jump from head to head, not staying with one person long enough for the reader to understand that person's emotions and feelings before they jump to someone else.

It confuses the reader and pulls them out of the best stories. Most authors try to write a scene in one person's POV. Then when they start the next scene they may switch to another person's POV.

The only time I tend to break this rule is if I'm writing a love scene. I might go for a page in herione's POV and then switch to the hero's POV. This way I can reveal both of their emotions.

There are of course many ways to tell a story. 1st person POV only uses one person through the whole book.

When choosing who is going to tell the story, ask who has the best chance of getting your message across?
Or who has the most to lose?

Hope this helped,

Anita

Excerpt:

Chloe
“That was an amazing dinner guys. Anyone care to join me in the Jacuzzi?” I asked.
“No, I am beat and I’m going to turn in so that I can enjoy sightseeing and shopping on tomorrow,” Shelby said.
“I’m with Shelby;” said Ray and Lyn.
“I’ll pass too,” said Cam.
“Me three,” said Kerri.
“Ok, I won’t be long. I’ll be up soon,” I said. I changed into my swimming suit, grabbed a glass of wine and my IPod. “This water feels great,” I said whispering to myself. Why I was whispering beats me, maybe it’s the wine. Ah hell, may as well get another glass. I got up to refill my glass when I heard a knock on the door that scared me. “Shit, who could that be?” I said walking to the door.

“Chef Todd?” I said surprisingly.
“I’m sorry to drop by unannounced but I forgot to give you ladies the desert I prepared. I uh, I” he said.
I realized I didn’t have my robe on when I followed his eyes to my barely covered breast.
“Come in, I was just enjoying the peace and quiet since my girls left me up. I’m Chloe by the way, would you like a glass of wine?”

“No thank you. I really didn’t mean to disturb you; I thought you ladies would still be up.” He said.

“We usually are but they were tired from the driving and we have a long day planned tomorrow; are you sure I can’t interest you in anything to drink?” I asked while grabbing the wine and walking back out to the Jacuzzi. I knew he was watching my ass but I really didn’t mind because my husband rarely did.

“No but I must say you are wearing the hell out of that swimming suit.” He said.

“This old thing!” I said laughing.

Sharing the Love - Second Chance @M_oSullivan26 #MFRWauthor

MFRW Author Martha O'Sullivan released SECOND CHANCE, a Contemporary Romance, in September 2013 with Red Sage Publishing.

Book Blurb
Lindsay Foster has convinced herself that marrying Paul Webster is the right thing to do. But she and Brian Rembrandt have some unfinished business. And Brian never met a rule, or a woman, that couldn't be broken. So when Lindsay won't come to him, he goes to her. But this love triangle has an extra side. And even Brian is no match for what happens next.
Excerpt
She’d lain in bed many a night dreaming about this. Remembering the way her head bowed back as Brian kneaded her breasts with his sure hands. The way her gut coiled into a spool of yen when his tongue did laps down her abdomen to her bellybutton and back again. The way the euphoric swooning in her head became a creamy deluge between her thighs.

He reacquainted himself with her curves as he inched her jeans down. Holding their weighted stare, he knelt above her, unbuttoning his tailored shirt from the top as she worked from the bottom. When their hands met, he stilled hers on this virility.

“Ooh,” she growled blissfully. He was as hard as she was wet. And she couldn’t wait until his billowing cock was between her legs.

Unbuckling his belt, he kicked off his jeans. Fully aroused, he glided all that separated them over her hips and crawled back to her. His seeping erection nudged at her as he scooped her dewy triangle. Every cell in her body was on high alert now, in anticipation of what was to come. She spread her legs in wholehearted invitation.

She whimpered when he found her moist creases. His fingers knew each tuck, each fold, each pleat of her center. His thumb settled on the fleshy nub at her core and he began to coddle her. She trembled, purred, pleaded, until finally he plunged into her saturated reservoir. His fingers thrust in and out as she squirmed beneath him, digging her nails into his back as her sharp, short gasps of baiting pleasure filled the air.

But that was nothing compared to the drone that escaped Brian’s throat when he entered her. She tightened around him, dripping as he grew inside her, grinding against him as he rode her. She lifted her buttocks and brought him deeper still, raising her hips to increase the friction, pushing him farther into her as his abdomen sailed over hers. Lindsay could count her stable of lovers on one hand, and Brian was by far the best of the bunch, she recalled as the tip of him pounded the remotest part of her. The orgasm built, retreated, then roared back in full force. It ripped through her with such wielding power that she howled once, then again and begged for more.

And just before Brian filled her, he obliged.

Reviewer Comments:

4.0 out of 5 stars I loved this book . April 15, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book was very enlightening to me. Having lived such a rich and entitled life, I never imagined the hardships of our ancestors. The knowledge of abuse and neglect of the children of immigrants disturbed me, but also the strength of a few select angels was inspiring. Alethea fills the book with details of the daily lives of the children and their saviors. I think it was her best book ever and can't wait for a new one to come out.

The book is dedicated to all women warriors, whatever their battle, and is written by a female veteran.
Excerpt:

The Last Vhalgenn

By Kayelle Allen

In this scene from The Last Vhalgenn, the heroine, Raik, has just bathed and eaten, and is alone with King Orix. They grew up together, but his new queen barred Raik from the palace. Raik is back to deliver news of a battle and while delighted to be with Orix, is nervous about his queen discovering them.

---

Orix set his fingers beneath my chin, and turned my face up to his. "You're more than pretty, Vhalgenn, you're magnificent. She's never once sat near the fire with me and talked."

It had been our nightly ritual. "Never?"

"Never." He brushed my hair back from my face. "I've learned to get along with her, Vhalgenn, but I never had to learn anything with you. We grew up with one another. You were my partner in everything I did. My lover, my sister, my sparring partner, my best friend. My everything."

I lifted my head to look up at him. As I did, his mouth came down on mine. A feverish chill coursed through me at his touch. I'd wanted his mouth from the moment I'd seen him on his throne. Orix could not help but be languid and sultry and hot. I felt desire emanating from him like heat from an oven with its door ajar. It scorched my face and I drew in a shallow breath, afraid of being burnt.

Resisting him was something I had never done, except in play. He thought I meant it that way now and made as if to pressure me, until he saw my eyes were brimming.

"Please, Orix. Don't." I pushed myself away from him. "I can't."

He frowned, confused. For him, life was simple. A need? Fulfill it. Thirsty? Drink. Hungry? Eat. Lusty? Love.

"Half the palace must know I'm here. Do you think your queen will let this go unnoticed? She'll have someone in here to check on me before the night's through and I won't be thrown out again, Orix. I couldn't bear it."

"Vhalgenn, I promise. She'll never know."

"No!" I moved away from him. "She's no fool. She's your queen and she's risking her life to have your child. The least you can do is be faithful."

The look of horror on his face tore out a piece of my heart. Then I realized he was looking past me.

His pregnant queen stood in the darkness, right outside the door.

#EggcerptExchange for Jixit by Jude Liebermann

Another one of my author friends is having a blog hop. Sort of like Blissemas we did at Christmas time, this one is called the Easter Excerpt Exchange and will run from March 5th through April 20th.  To push me into finishing Jixit, I’ve set myself a deadline for the second week of April to have it published online.  Today I created the cover, which I will unveil in this blog, so enjoy!
jixitsmall
Blurb:
Colin Jix is a loner. He’s had to be, so he lives in a remote mountain town where he limits his contact with other people.  He’s settled into his solitary life and resigned himself to be alone. That is until Dot Tate shows up with a broken down car and needs his help.  Neither can fight their immediate attraction, but then he discovers a tragic secret and must step outside his comfort zone to make things right.
And here is the eggcerpt:
A persistent knocking woke him early the next morning.  Disoriented and still tired from lack of sleep, he rolled off the couch and stumbled to the door.  Without thought he pulled it open with a yawn and then froze, suddenly remembering he never opened his door to strangers as well as making sure he was completely dressed first.  As the cool air from the hallway hit his naked chest, he realized he still wore the towel from his shower the night before.  Her scent on that unwelcome air hit him harder, and he covered his crotch with one hand and slammed the door shut with the other.
Dot was left standing in the hall, staring at the door, but that’s not what she saw.  The vision of Colin in only a towel would be forever imprinted on her retinas.  Her mouth fell open at those muscles, and the hair lightly sprinkled on his chest and abdomen, disappearing beneath the low riding towel.  His tattered uniform and all that grease had hidden much more than she could have hoped for, and she licked her lips.
“Oh my!” The breath rushed from her lungs, before she sucked it back in and knocked on the door again.
“Yeah, hold your damn horses!” His muffled shout replied from a distance.
Her instincts told her to get the hell out of there. She’d already embarrassed him, and she didn’t want to make it worse, but she knew she couldn’t leave without at least apologizing for taking him so unaware. She thought mechanics always got up early. Glancing at her watch, she winced, having read the time wrong.  It probably was too early to show up at a man’s home, especially one she barely knew.
Dot took a few steps away from the door and waited.  His agitation came through the wood in muffled curses, and she clenched her fingers together behind her back.  When the door finally opened again, black covered Colin from head to toe.  The only bit of skin visible was the part of his face the knitted cap and matching scarf didn’t cover.  She frowned, wanting to see his hair without all that grease, and she missed that opportunity earlier when she couldn’t tear her eyes from his muscular chest and arms.
His whole body blocked the doorway as he glared at her.  “How did you know where I live?”
She gave him what she hoped was her most charming smile.  “So I guess you’re not going to invite me in?”
His objection to that suggestion shone clearly in his disgruntled features.  “I was actually on my way out.”  He closed and locked the door behind him and then marched past her to the stairs.  “I thought you understood that your car won’t be ready for at least a week.”
Dot stared at his ass, wishing his jeans were a bit tighter.  “Of course you made that clear.  I was having breakfast at the diner and mentioned how my phone switches off for no reason. The waitress mentioned you.  I actually think she has a crush on you.”
Colin stopped half way down the stairs and looked over his shoulder at her.  “You mean Rose?”
She nodded, unable to keep the humor from showing in her grin.
“Rose has a crush on every eligible man in the whole town.  I’ll have to talk to her about giving out my address to strangers though.”
Dot raced down the stairs and stopped in front of him.  “I’m not a stranger.”
He stared down at her, his expression unreadable, and she tried not to fidget under his intense scrutiny.  He held out his gloved hand to her, and she stared at it, unsure what to do.  Did he want to hold her hand?  A warm rush flowed through her body at the thought, even though she wouldn’t be holding his bare hand.
“Your phone?”
“Oh, of course.” She couldn’t stop the nervous giggle that escaped as she scrambled through her purse in search of her cell phone.  Once found, she placed it in his gloved palm.
Colin stared at it for a moment, and she saw uncertainty cross his face.  Finally, he pulled off one glove and cradled the phone in his fingers.  She could only stare in awe as his expression changed, as if he no longer saw the phone but something bigger, and his eyes scanned the empty air above his palm.
He blinked a few times and then refocused on her.  “I’ll walk you back to the diner.  I should have your phone fixed by then.”
Without another word, he passed her on the stairs, and she had no other choice but to follow him.

Available for pre-order at Barnes & Noble and will be soon at Kobo Books and iTunes, but you can view it and read the first chapter now on Smashwords.com.

April 11th is the official release date when it will be on Amazon.com. www.judesplace.com/blog @judel

Little Cover Love for HotWired #MFRWauthor

This is one of my favorite book - because it is a futuristic tale of how you can guarantee devotion.

Blurb -

Suzi Hotwired for each other... When Ross Dixon is kidnapped from his office, along with the sexy lawyer who'd been busting his balls over a deal that should have been a walk in the park, he wakes to find a devotion chip surgically implanted in his brain. If that isn't bad enough, the chip, designed to trigger emotional reactions between him and the woman lying next to him, is working overtime on his libido.

Mistaken for Ross's flavor of the month, Kayla Michaels, a 22nd century lawyer, doesn't have a problem spending time in Ross's bed--or over his desk--but she wants no part in the romantic feelings the chip is provoking. She's been down that road before and ended up burned.

Kayla and Ross struggle to find answers while coming to terms with the constant lust sizzling between them, but along the way each wonders if the emotions are real or just a side effect of being hotwired.

Excerpt
The tall mountain of a man in the middle shuffled forward. “Come with us, please.”

“And if we don’t want to go?” Still in her chair, Kayla appeared ready to jump into action if any of them stepped closer. To fight three men might be foolhardy, but he couldn’t help but respect her courage.

“You don’t have a choice,” the leader said and led the way forward. “Our job is to get you there on time.”

Kayla laid the minicomputer in her lap on the floor and stood. “I’m not going anywhere with anyone.”

Ross straightened. “Wait a minute. There’s been a mistake.”

“No, mistake, Mr. Dixon.” The third man pulled out restraints.

“We’ve been paid to bring you in and that’s what we’re going to do. Let’s not make this harder than it is.”

Ross gripped the edge of his desk. Transport teams were often hired out to private parties. “Who paid you?”

“Enough talk.” The leader motioned with his weapon. “Let’s go.”

Book Love for Second Chances @PFiala #MFRWauthor

Second Chances @PFiala #MFRWauthor

When uncontrollable passions collide, and the past hovers at the edge of their relationship; can Sam and Gray find their happily ever after?

MFRW Author PJ Fiala released SECOND CHANCES, an Erotic
Romance, with Archway Publishing in February 2014.

Blurb
After a nearly 30 year marriage to a man suffering from depression, Samantha Powell has decided a nice quiet, drama-free life is for her. She has demons to combat and self-esteem issues to overcome. She has decided to sell her house and find a nice little condo that places virtually no maintenance demands on her and allows her to work on herself for a while.

Grayson Kinkaide has waited his whole life, all 55 years of it, looking for his soul mate, the other half of himself. He suffered through an awful marriage with a manipulative selfish woman that almost brought him to his knees. The only things that kept him strong were his children and his growing business.

When Gray meets Sam both of their lives are changed drastically. Sam’s dream of a drama-free life is jerked from her grasp as Gray’s exes do everything in their power to tear them apart. Gray finds himself having to fight, hard, to convince Sam they are meant to be together.
Excerpt
…Just then, Mrs. Koepple said, “Mr. Kinkaide, she really is a wonderful person. Don’t let this chance pass you by.”
She said it with a wink at him and he smiled a little bigger.
Sam couldn’t imagine any woman could resist that smile. Grayson told Mrs. Koepple, “I promise you I will make every effort to not let the opportunity pass me by.” Sam’s eyes were huge as she gaped at the three of them, mouth ajar. Jessie giggled and Sam looked at her with that same look on her face.
Jessie’s smile was huge. She winked at Sam and said, “That Mrs. Koepple sure knows how to make an exit.”
As Grayson turned to walk back into the room, Bill Chase walked into the room from behind Sam. He saw Grayson helping Mrs. Koepple and Alfred out the door and smiled.
“I see you met Mrs. Koepple and Alfred. They’re a cute couple, aren’t they?”
Grayson smiled again. Oh my God, that smile! He nodded at Bill, then looked at Sam. His eyes were so beautiful—dark like black coffee with thick lashes surrounding them. A sigh escaped Sam and Bill gave her a sideways glance. She blushed again and said a mental Crap.
Bill walked forward and shook hands with Grayson and Jackson. Sam was rooted to the spot just watching them, him.
Bill said, “Gray, it’s about time I got you to come to me for legal assistance. I was beginning to wonder if I could ever talk you into it.”
Grayson smiled and looked at Jackson, who was smiling as well.
Jackson finally spoke up and said, “Well, Grandpa was really insistent that we use his attorney over the years, but now that he’s retiring, we felt we could make the move.”
Grayson and Bill talked like they were friends. Finally, Bill turned and started leading the way to the conference room, which was a cue to stop gaping and go back to work. Sam looked over at Jessie, who had a huge grin on her face.
Sam shook her head and started to turn and walk back to her office when Grayson said, “Sam, may I have a word with you?”
Sam froze in her tracks, took a deep breath, and slowly turned back around to face him. Bill looked first at Grayson and at Sam with a furrow in his brow.
“Is there anything wrong, Gray?”

Jackson put his hand on Bill’s shoulder and chuckled as he said, “I’ll fill you in on our interesting morning.”

About PJ
I have waited a lifetime to begin my writing career. I was always waiting for the right time. It is now. Last year, I wrote three books, the first, Second Chances, to be published in February 2014. The other two; Dog Days of Summer and Rydin the Storm Out, part of the Rolling Thunder series, I will be publishing myself this year. I have now written my fourth book, Gunnin for You, which I hope will be out soon after Rydin the Storm Out.

I read approximately 75 books each year and love to read and share them with others. My husband and I are bikers and tour the country with friends and family.

Mia has plenty of titles available at The Wild Rose Press!

Blurb:

When business mogul Jordan Hill inherits half of Bendura Island Resort, a posh vacation destination in the Fiji Islands, the will demands he release his half uncle's ashes somewhere on the island and that he indulge in a real vacation before he sells. As Jordan is reeling with grief and under good circumstances doesn't do vacations, especially if they include horses and looming volcanoes, he finds himself on uneven footing. The footing turns treacherous as Jordan realizes, for the first time in his life, he's attracted to a man--his new business partner.

For resort entrepreneur Ryan McCale, Bendura Island is a dream come true as well as his livelihood. He was warned Jordan would try to sell sight unseen, and after meeting him, there's no doubt the business shark has dollar signs in his eyes. But there's also vulnerability and desire in that chocolate gaze. Suddenly, Ryan's looking forward to showing Jordan the delights of the island and hoping to convince his new partner Bendura could be his dream, too.

Contains: Explicit language, hot m/m lovin', light kink, two gorgeous guys, horses, and an impending insurance nightmare of a volcano. Enjoy!

Approx: 184 pages

Excerpt:

"Then come for five-thirty, dress casual."

There was something biting in Ryan's voice that said if Jordan wore a suit, he was slamming the door in his face. "How casual?"

"Hawaiian print shirt and khaki shorts. Sandals or flip-flops. It's too hot for jeans."Ryan's lips curved into the hint of a naughty smile. "They sell those at the resort shop, too."

"Any certain color for the shirt, or will you allow me to choose that?" Smart ass, tossing the gauntlet like that, assuming he didn't own casual clothes.

A quick mental tour through the suitcase told Jordan that he didn't, which pissed him off. He had stuff for the gym, a swim suit, casual slacks, suits. Which meant another trip to the hell that was the resort shop.

Fuck you, Blake, thinking you know me better than I know myself.

Ryan's gaze thoughtfully slid down and then up Jordan's frame. Jordan's skin heated with a tingle that had nothing to do with the humidity. He shifted, appalled that his cock would stir even just a little as Ryan's perusal ended at his mouth, hesitating there for a nanosecond that Jordan surely read wrong. But stir his dick did, his body obviously okay with being checked out.

Ryan cocked his head, a slow smile spreading across his lips. "Blue. Or Green."

"And if they don't carry one?"

"You're coming to talk to me about selling your portion of the island. It would be wise to humor me if you want me to listen to what you have to say. I can make this deal sit in court for years and years, so if I want you to show up naked, I suggest you do." Ryan's tone was soft, but his eyes glinted with blue steel.

Jordan couldn't remember the last time he'd been given an ultimatum, so this was another fucking first.

The sizzle of anger paled in comparison to the jolt of desire singing along his nerves, one that joined with the fierce need to run right out and buy that blue shirt and khaki shorts. Holy fucking shit.
