A water droplet landed on Red’s cheek and startled her. She wiped it and opened her eyes. “Welcome back, sleepy head.” Chopper wiped his hand on his shorts and placed the glass of water on the table.

“Have I been out long?” She looked at her watch and wondered what time she'd fallen asleep.

“I've been here about five minutes.” Chopper jumped up. “Ok, now that you're awake, I just have to tell you. This song popped into my head and it's driving me crazy.”

Red dropped her tablet into her beach bag and waited for him to continue.

“It's the Red Riding Hood song. I think Sam the Sham and the Prophets sang it. It's like from like the mid-sixties.”

She shook her head. “Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs. And it took you long enough to get there. Most people start cracking jokes within minutes of hearing my name.”

“I wasn't focused yesterday. But today, I'm Michael Jackson!” He stepped right and left and snapped his fingers.

“Little Red Riding Hood.

You sure are looking good.

You're everything that a big, bad wolf could want.”

He spun around and posed, one arm at his crotch and flung the other up in the air. “Owooooooo!

Trying to keep a straight face, Red asked, “You aren't going to send in an application for that dance show thing, right?”

“What, you don't like my dancin'?” He shook his knees in and out and flapped his arms like a chicken, then made two-handed stirring motions, like he was in front of a large cauldron. “Why are you laughing? I'm just getting started.” He leaned forward and jerked up his right hand. “It's called the lawn mower. But, if you do it this way…” He straightened and repeated the pulling motion. “Then it's the chainsaw. Oh. Oh. And now for the big finale. The Moonwalk.”

He slid his right foot back and popped his left heel, then slid that foot back. Red had to admit he did a good version of Michael's famous move – until he backed into the waiter and knocked a tray of drinks onto the passengers seated near her.

Stop that crying or by all that is powerful, I will beat you.”

“Do not yell so. You will frighten the poor child.”

Through tears, Branwyn stared at her uncle and aunt. “I… I do not understand. Why must I go?”

Her aunt sat next to her. “It is your time, child. A husband has been chosen. You must leave us to join with him.”

“About time it is!” Her uncle’s face grew redder with each word. “One year shy of a score she is, and still unwed. She must fall to her knees to thank God someone wishes to marry such an old spinster.”

Branwyn slapped the arm of her chair. “I decline. It is my right. I shall not marry this man!”

“How many men do you think you can refuse?” Her uncle paced about the small room. “This is the fourth suitor to ask for your hand. You cannot. It is done. Your things are being loaded as we speak.” He jerked back a curtain in the window and pointed.

The door opened and in stepped a tall, broad-shouldered soldier. “The carriage awaits.”

“Branwyn.” Aunt Selda patted her hand. “You have no dowry. This is a good match. He is a rich man. He will give you babies.”

Suspicion gnawed at Branwyn’s stomach. “And what did he give you?”

“Gold.”

Hunter by Valerie Ullmer #Paranormal , #Erotic , #Romance Book 5

Hunter (A Dark Assassins Novel Book Five)
By Valerie Ullmer

Genre:  Paranormal Erotic Romance

Cover Design by:  Valerie Ullmer

[ Blurb ]

Half-vampire and half-shifter.

The one definitive belief panther-shifter Hunter and the other immortals understood about shifters and vampires; vampire venom is deadly to shifters and vice versa.  But Hunter never worried about testing the theory because he never wondered if he had a mate, even after a few of his family had found their own. As he and two others stumble upon and eliminate several rogue shifters, part of a larger group determined to kill each of the assassins, Hunter also stumbles upon the one woman destined to be his.  There’s only one problem. She’s part vampire.

All alone in the world.

Despite everything, Neri made a life for herself after she escaped from a facility using her as a test subject.  She has no past, no family, and no connections to the world as far as she can remember. She stays to herself and finds a routine, telling herself she isn’t lonely.  But everything changes when she spots Hunter and her first true memory revealed. He was there the day someone injected her with an experimental drug and changed into this cold being.

As Neri and Hunter navigate their newfound relationship, their journey becomes even more complicated when they learn Neri’s venom is deadly to shifters.  But with help from the other immortals, Hunter and Neri reveal her past and realize the extent of the threat Dark Company has been dealing with for years.

But can their relationship survive with so much stacked against them?

“You don’t have to fear me.  You’re safe.” Hunter reiterated his promise and cupped her face.
Hunter’s vision blackened around the edges and a second later, he plunged into a darkness.  He didn’t understand when he heard her quiet voice.
“I’m not so sure about that.”
The next minute, Hunter sensed his surroundings changed.  He blinked his eyes, getting used to the darkness after the bright, blinding light of the snow.  He still found himself on his knees and as he moved his fingers searching for the woman who had been right in front of him, he found she wasn’t there any longer.
Hunter closed his eyes and listened to his surroundings.
There was a low hum from a computer fan somewhere in the room and there was breathing, deep, as if the person was asleep.  Before he could investigate further, a desk lamp clicked on and his eyes moved toward the arrogant looking man seated, cross-legged, on an uncomfortable metal chair.  He had a smug look on his face and Hunter wanted to break his face.
Hunter pulled his gaze from the man and took a quick glance around and to him, something about it seemed familiar.  The sterile coldness, the clear glass that looked out into the hall, the white formica tiles on the floor. Sterile and clean.  The place gave him the creeps.
When he turned his gaze to the man in the lab coat, his gaze wasn’t on Hunter but on a woman laying on the exam table he hadn’t seen until that moment.
Hunter took a deep breath, trying to examine the scents in the room and looking for a familiar one, but there was nothing.  He should have scented the sterile environment, the blue liquid on the counter along with wooden sticks and cotton balls, but there was nothing.
He growled in frustration but neither the older gray-haired doctor, nor the woman strapped down with her mouth covered to muffle sound, reacted to the sound escaping from his throat.
Without another thought, he lunged for the doctor but he passed through the figure.
Okay, I’m not here.  Can’t scent, can’t touch.
Hunter turned toward the table and sucked in a deep breath as the familiar features of the woman in the mountains came into focus.  Her face looked gaunt, but it was the dark brown hair and matching eyes that took him by surprise because she looked familiar. Her body looked starved and despite the bruising on her limbs and the dark circles under her eyes; she looked back at the doctor in defiance.
Hunter jolted when the man spoke.
“So, Nerissa… it appears you’re an utter failure as a shifter.”  His eyes glanced down as if he were ashamed by her lack of abilities.  “But you are a prime candidate for an experimental drug my colleagues and I have been working on.”
Her gaze narrowed as he continued to speak and he noted her body shook with the continuous growl that emitted from her throat.
“You had such promise.  Oh, well.”
As if waiting for that statement, a nurse walked in and handed a syringe to the man.  “Here you go, Dr. Stevens.”

Jade by Valerie Ullmer #Paranormal #Erotic #Romance

Jade (A Dark Assassins Novel Book Four)
By Valerie Ullmer

Genre:  Paranormal Erotic Romance

[ Blurb ]

Jade never wanted a mate.  She loved being an assassin and she had a family in her fellow assassins, their mates, and little Silas.  She truly had everything she needed.  But when Ghost assigned her to track the same immortals who tried to kill Xander’s family, she couldn’t refuse.

But the complication arises when Ghost requests she partner with Noah, a human and ex-special forces soldier.  Jade has never worked with a human before, much less one that hated her from the moment he laid eyes on her.  But she was a professional and if she could play a part in destroying the immortals who threatened her family, she could accept the human.  If only she knew how to fight her attraction to him.

All Noah Hale wanted was to kill the immortals who lured his best friend and fellow ex-Navy SEAL to his death.  He had no desire to be teamed with a beautiful tracker who mesmerized him the moment she turned her emerald eyes his way.  But in order to stop other soldiers from pursuing the same fate, he needed to swallow his pride and work with a group of immortals he didn’t trust.

As Jade and Noah track the group of shifters through the mountains of Colorado, the danger lurking around every corner threatens everything they both hold close.  Will they be able to find a way through, together?

[ Excerpt ]

Jade caught a scent of a human as she entered the fourteen-story building in downtown Snowfall.  It wasn’t just any human scent, but something that made all of her instincts flare.  She knew that she’d never caught this particular scent before, but something told her that this human might be important to her.  She tried to brush it off as quickly as the thought came, but she couldn’t find it coincidental she smelled it in the same steel building owned by Ghost and housed the headquarters of Dark Company.
As she dismissed the fleeting thought of searching for the scent, her heart thumped once, hard, in her chest at the thought of not finding its owner.  She forced herself to walk toward the elevator bank, ignoring the unwanted perusals she received from the men in the lobby.  Even in an unassuming hoodie and black yoga pants, she drew unwanted attention.  A side effect of being an immortal.
The elevator opened as soon as she pressed the up-button and she kept her gaze down as she walked into the elevator.  She entered the code to get to Ghost’s private floor, her movements too quick to be caught by the human eye, before she squeezed into the corner.  Jade used her other senses as three men in suits and two women entered the enclosed space with her.  There was no need to glance at the glass interior that covered the back wall to see what she looked like.
She sensed eyes on her.  Instead of searching out the gaze, she whipped her long, straight dyed black hair into a bun on the back of her head with quick movements before sneaking her hands into the front pockets of her hoodie.
Jade waited patiently as the car traveled toward the penthouse, her ultimate destination, but she couldn’t help but try to find the intriguing scent from earlier.
After my meeting.
All she knew was he hadn’t used the particular elevator she was in and the higher the lift took her in the building, the more his scent dissipated.
In her entire existence, or what she remembered of it, she’d never been attracted to…anyone.  She’d never felt the pull to find someone either.  But lately, she’d felt increasingly restless whenever she had any downtime and her skin tingled in a way that had nothing to do with signaling immediate danger.  It was as though her body tried to convey something she didn’t understand.
Her thoughts were interrupted when a man who had gotten into the elevator with her on the first floor stepped into her personal space.
“Hey, beautiful?”
Jade rolled her eyes and raised her head to glare at the man.  Of course, he wouldn’t take the hint that she wanted to be left alone.  To emphasize the point, she crossed her arms and leaned against the wall, moving away from his intrusion.
The man decided to take this as an invitation and moved to wrap his arm around her waist.  The move gave her a clear shot to his ribs and she took it, gently moving her elbow back and making contact.  She flinched when she heard a distinctive crack, realizing she hadn’t been careful enough.  Before she could apologize, the elevator door opened and he ran off without looking back, holding onto his side.
She sighed.

Mastering Her Fear - @BJ_Wane #Suspense #Romance #Erotic

Author:  BJ Wane
Release Date:  January 12, 2018
Publisher:  Blushing Books
Genre:  Erotic Romance

BLURB:
Julie Martin pulled on Jackson Davenport’s protective urges the minute he
stepped outside and saw her go flying off her swing to land in a heap of
gangly arms and legs then come up smiling. When he discovered how her
parents pressed her into competing in beauty pageants for their own selfish
gratification, he took it upon himself to provide her with the friendship the
little girl craved. Years later, just when his adult feelings – and body –
began to want more from the beautiful young woman she’d
grown up to be, Julie moved away to take the modeling world by storm.
Jackson’s first encounter with the changes in her personality broke his heart
and he severed all ties with her.

Six years later, Julie returns to Jackson a broken woman, unable to cope
with the nightmare that changed her life forever. When he discovers her
penchant for cutting herself to deal with the fear, he shows her a
new side of him she’s never seen before, and a new way to get through
the darkness that continues to plague her.

Even though Julie embraces Jackson’s dominant sexuality and the way
his painful ministrations work much better at calming her fears, the truth
of what happened the night her two friends were murdered stands between
them. Will she be able to set aside her guilt to tell him the entire truth, or
will she once again lose the only person who can complete her?

Publisher’s Note: This book is intended for adults only. It contains elements
of power exchange and explicit scenes. While it is the third title in the Miami
Masters series, it can be enjoyed as a standalone.

Her skin turned hot, her flesh pulsed and her senses skyrocketed.
How had she survived so long without his dominant control to
drive out her fear?

EXCERPT (PG)
Rounding the corner, Julie saw a small red barn across the
sweeping lawn and started that way until her pulse leaped
from the low but recognizable voice coming from behind
the kennels.  Drawing a deep breath to steady her nerves,
she walked to the back then stopped short, her heart stuttering
at seeing Jackson again for the first time in six years.
The old cliché about how a woman could get turned on
from eyeing a hot man wearing a tool belt or Stetson pulled
low over a rugged face never mentioned the instant,
cream-your-jeans effect of seeing a tall, muscular man crooning
to a small puppy held with care in his large hand.  The sun picked
up hints of red in his dark, mahogany hair curling around his nape,
one sweat-dampened lock falling across his forehead.  Not since
the night he’d left her with her lips throbbing and her girly parts
tingling from his first and only kiss had she been so affected
by a man.

Then Jackson raised his head and pinned her in place with
those dark blue eyes.  The urge to run and throw herself at
him threatened Julie’s composure, forcing her to fist her
hands until her nails gouged her palms.  The sharp pain
kept her grounded in place.  She could no
longer expect him to catch her and hold her tight.
“Hello, Jackson.”
