A #HolidayRecipe: Lily and the Gambler by @LyndiLamont #Romance

Lily & the Gambler
By Linda McLaughlin
Sensual Western Historical Romance

Blurb:

Respectability is in the eye of the beholder. Or so Lily Penhallow hopes when she assumes the guise of the widow Albright. She has learned the price of flaunting convention and is determined to obey society's rules from now on. After her lover, Nigel Albright, was killed in a duel over a card game, Lily dons widow’s weeds and travels to Grass Valley, California where she plans to marry the man her uncle works for, a respectable mine owner named Hugh Ogilvie. Then, on the riverboat from San Francisco, she meets Creighton 'King' Callaway, a professional gambler, just the kind of man she should avoid.

King believes that since life is a gamble, there's no point in planning for the future. You have to trust Lady Luck. After meeting Lily, King knows he has found his Queen of Hearts. But can he convince her to pass up a sober businessman for a foot-loose card sharp?

Only Lady Luck knows for sure...

Excerpt:

Lily smiled at him. “That was quite a trick. Do you tell fortunes, too?”

“As a matter of fact, I do. Is the lady interested?”

“Perhaps,” she said, aware he was flirting with her again and annoyed with herself because she was enjoying it. “There should be a deck of cards here somewhere.”

“No cards required. Just let me see your palm.”

Unable to stop herself, Lily stripped off her gloves and let him take her hand. He held it in his left hand, and with his right index finger, traced the lines on her palm. Shivers ran up her arm at each caressing touch. His scent, a mixture of bay rum, male musk, and a faint hint of tobacco, overwhelmed her.

“What do you see?” she asked, her voice suddenly breathless.

“Health and long life.”

“What, no handsome stranger?” she joked.

He raised his head and stared into her eyes. “Oh, yes, I see romance ahead for you. With a dark haired fellow. But he isn’t a stranger.”

For what seemed an age, she stared into his green-gold eyes while her pulse quickened and warmth stole through her veins. It would be so easy to surrender to the feelings he evoked.

“I also see a fork in the road ahead,” he added softly. “You have a decision to make. A very important decision.”

She snatched her hand away, knowing she couldn’t afford to be distracted by him. It wasn’t as if he had made her any promises. “I think you need to practice your fortune-telling skills, Mr. Callaway.”

He chuckled. “There’s something else I’d like to practice.” Cupping her chin, he stared at her, his eyes full of half promises. “Oh, hell, I may get my face slapped for this, but…” His hand moved to the back of her neck as he lowered his head and captured her lips in a kiss that stole her breath away.

For a moment, she closed her eyes and gave herself up to the kiss. Then a door slammed somewhere in the house, reminding her of where they were. She pushed him away. “How dare you?” she hissed.

He gave her a lazy grin. “What’s that old saying? Nothing ventured, nothing gained?”
“I think you’d best be going.”

He paused at front door, turned and held her gaze for a moment, then left.

She sighed and leaned against the doorjamb. What had she been thinking to let him kiss her, however briefly?

Original Holiday Recipe: Lyndi's Cranberry-Blueberry Delight

Ingredients:

1 14 oz. can of Whole Berry Cranberry Sauce
1 package of fresh blueberries (about 4 oz.)
1 cup of golden raisins

Mix, chill and serve. That's it!

The recipe serves 8-10 ladies. (The attached photo doesn't reflect the full recipe. It's what is left over after a couple of days of snacking on it.) I’ve also spread it on turkey sandwiches in lieu of regular cranberry sauce.

Since it's so simple, it's easy to experiment. Add nuts for crunch or sweeten to taste, if it's too tart. I'm thinking about adding some of those little marshmallows next time for color and sweetness.

Excerpt : (hot)
“And how do you plan to control me?”
He toyed with the knot of her robe, untied it, and shoved the garment off her shoulders. His dark gray eyes fell to the heavy swell of her breasts. A wicked grin played on his lips. Slowly, his gaze lifted to meet hers. “I, like you, have my ways.”
She cupped her hands over his shoulders and rose onto her knees. The idea of him trying to bend her to his will enflamed the submissive hunger buried within her soul. Gab had played the part of being a dominant partner at times but never demanded she submit to his will in every aspect of their life. Hell, he had even allowed John to be in charge while they enjoyed each other.
Now, without her husband’s protection, Reece appeared to want the job of setting down the rules of engagement. Tess smiled at the thought of the pleasure they could give each other and moved her rock hard nipples to within easy reach of his mouth. “This could be fun.”
He tilted his head and rubbed his hands over her ass as if warning her to behave. Naughty thoughts raced through her head. Visions of them together tempted her. “Just as long as you understand I call the shots.”

Clara learns that her future husband, Francis, requires the young woman to undergo a medical examination to ensure that she has remained pure and that she is as intact as her reputation. Clara has never felt more disgraced as she is forced to bare all of herself to the doctor, where she undergoes far more than she ever anticipated. Silently, she swears to herself that she will move past the humiliation and never speak of what happened with the physician.
When Francis pays a visit to Clara’s father to propose additional terms to the marriage, wanting to bring along one of her maids so he will have a nanny in the house for Clara, the young bride-to-be is shocked to realize that he was the man giving her an examination. Was he really a doctor, or was he playing the part to ruin her reputation?
Little Brides is the second book in the Victorian Chronicles. It can be read as a stand-alone story but it does follow the first book in the series: A Proper Punishment.

A Proper Punishment

William Mason is responsible for guarding the train and the gold bars buried inside the safes. He has always been a man of the law. When he discovers that the safe transporting the gold has been broken in to and there are thieves on the train, he enlists the help of the young Lena Mae, who has caught his attention. Excerpt

Francis had paid an unexpected visit to Clara’s parents’ home, wishing to speak with them about hiring a nanny for Clara. Though, in truth, he did not desire to use such words around her family. He wanted the chance to marry the young lady and worried that if he confessed of his desires, that they might not offer the young lady to him. Instead he would refer to the position as a maid, because it was quite common for wealthy families to have maids to help the girls with their chores and getting ready for proper events.
He had not intended on visiting with Clara after the examination. In fact, he had planned on her discovering that he was the physician when they were to wed. It would have been quite a surprise, even for him, a man who despised surprises, but he thought it was in Clara’s best interest.
“What are you doing here?” Clara asked, staring at him harshly. She stepped closer, examining him from head to toe. “Are you really a physician or was what you did some sick joke?” Clara folded her arms across her chest.
He was confident that she was angry with him and for valid reason, he hadn’t been forthcoming in who he was. Francis also hadn’t thought that if he was honest she would have been accepting of what he wanted to do, ensure that she was a virtuous bride.
“I am a doctor,” Francis said. “You visited my home and the cottages for the sick and dying.” He quite often had at least one family hauled up in one of the buildings until they passed away. It made caring for them much easier when they were within a few days or weeks of their last dying breath.
“You lied to me!” Clara shouted as she stomped across the floor, coming to approach him.
He wasn’t sure whether she had it in her to hit him or only scream at him. Either way he was prepared for whatever anger she unleashed. Francis did not deny that it was probably warranted. It wasn’t that he intended to betray her, only keep her from second guessing the decision of their marriage.
“I did what was in your best interest,” Francis said. “I intended to marry you and have no reason not to.” He hoped that she would not give him a reason to turn her away. She was beautiful, strikingly so with her honey blonde hair and hazel eyes that twinkled in the candelabra lighting.
Clara huffed with anger, her teeth clenched tight and her hands balled into fists. “You violated me!”
“Excuse me?” George asked, interrupting the tiff between his daughter and Francis. “Would someone please clarify what exactly is going on here?”

Author Interview

Is this your first series?
Writing as Allison West, this is the first series that I’ve done. However, I’ve written a young adult series that was three books.

How many books will be in the Victorian Chronicles series?
Right now there are only two books. I hope to write more, but I haven’t planned anything further.

Favorite book?
I absolutely loved The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.

Favorite TV shows?
The 100, 13 Reasons Why, The Handmaid’s Tale

What makes a good story?
Characters with a solid backstory, a believable world –whether it’s historical, fantasy, science fiction or contemporary it has to be based on enough truth to seem real, a strong story arc, and a romance that is believable. I enjoy reading romances that aren’t just throw the characters together and let them make out. Obstacles and flawed characters are more genuine and real, they’re like us.

Tell us a crazy story about your life.
I recently got married and the week of the wedding, my fiancé was hospitalized in isolation for C-Diff. We weren’t sure the wedding would happen. When it came down to the wedding day, everything was beautiful, the ceremony was amazing, but at the reception – I was sick. We spent our wedding night in the ER and missed our first dance and reception. Talk about a crazy night.

What is your favorite genre?
I really love dystopian stories. The better the world building, the more compelled I am to read it.
Tell us about your most adventurous experience.
About 10 years ago I traveled to Australia by myself to meet a friend that I knew online. We both loved to write and were obsessed over a television show, so I took the trip to meet her. Turned out to be an amazing time and we became even better best friends. Just last year I traveled back to Australia to attend her wedding!

Cal's Law by PK Corey #romance #ebook #newrelease

Title: Cal’s Law

Author: PK Corey

Release date: January 5, 2017

Taglines:

Both guys were so different, the choice should be clear-cut, but when is it ever?

His shoulder muscles, his six-pack and his thighs look as though they had been chiseled from marble.

He was too old for her, and she was too much of a spoiled little rich girl for him.

Sales Blurb:
Jenny is the typical rich-kid, sorority girl. Getting good grades isn’t high on her priority list. In fact, that sits well below getting into the secret faction of her sorority. To do that she must pull off a daring bit of mischief.
Cal Bennett is the town sheriff. He’s a relatively young, no-nonsense, kind of guy – with a heart of gold. He is the moral center of this small town in North Carolina. But when his and Jenny’s paths cross unexpectedly, things get complicated and he questions his morals and his heart.
His plan to save Jenny from herself by enforcing strict discipline seems like a sound one.  To both of them. At first. He enacts a touch of martial law and Jenny agrees to learn more than English Lit. Cooking, cleaning, and laundry are but a few of her new subjects. Along with time-management, telling the truth and doing homework. Breaking any one in this new set of rules will result in a sound spanking. It all sounds simple enough when she signs on the dotted line of the contract between her and her sheriff.
But, life is messy and she is faced with one tough decision after another. She’s a college student! Shouldn’t life be easier than this? Less complicated? But she is pulled in two directions: her moral, upstanding sheriff leads her down one path, and a cute frat boy leads her down another. In one direction lies maturity, and a future. In the other, the simplicity of being a rich kid in college where Mommy and Daddy pay for everything. Now she must choose: Will she continue to let her parents pay for it all, or will she learn to pay the price for her own actions?

Excerpt:

“Yes, there’s something wrong. What time did you get to your first class this morning?”
Shit! “Umm… I might have been a few minutes late this morning.”
“Try twenty minutes and you were ten minutes late Monday, but Professor Wright didn’t call me Monday since you’d been doing so much better. What happened?”
“My phone died, I didn’t wake up,” Jenny got out.
“Which time, Monday or today?” Cal demanded.
“I… well, it…” Jenny stammered. Stopping she took a deep breath try to fight the disappointment she felt. He’d only called her over to yell at her for something stupid.
“What’s the big deal?” she flung her words at him angrily, “I overslept, okay. I hit the snooze and didn’t feel like getting up. I made it to class both days and that old fart has no right calling you if I’m late or just decide not to go to class one day. It’s nobody’s damn business but mine.”
Cal let a half minute of silence pass as he stared at her. “Your teenage brat side is showing,” he observed. “Nearly three weeks ago you made, and signed, our agreement when you were thinking like a grown woman. You agreed to go to all your classes and to be on time. That woman impressed me with her willingness to do what’s right. Now who are you, a woman who does what’s right or a teenage brat?”

Author Bio:

The love of writing came to me late in life and I spent time trying to fit writing into a busy schedule. Recently I retired, the kids are out and on their own and my wonderful husband encourages me to spend more time exploring the world of writing.

I always hear you should write what you want to read, so I have. I write loving domestic discipline with the stress on ‘loving’. I want a strong man who cherishes the woman he loves and will go to any length to keep her safe and protected.

My Cassie’s Space series shows a mature couple who are deeply in love. Despite loving Cassie’s free spirited ways Tom is determination to keep her safe, even if it takes a trip over his knee. My new series, Cal’s Law, is about a younger couple. Though they come from very different backgrounds, love and discipline draw them together.

PK Corey’s Reading Room

Author Interview

This is entirely optional, but if you want to make a more individual post, please feel free to choose a few Q&As to include.

1.     When did writing become important to you?

I discovered spanking blogs just over ten years ago. They really caught my interest and they stirred a desire to write some of the stories that had long been in my head. I wrote my first story after I turned fifty.

2.     Do you view writing as a career?

I’ve recently retired from teaching, so I can’t say I see writing as a true career yet, but it’s more important to me than just a hobby.

3.     What puts you in the best mood to write?

I’m alone at home, fresh cup of coffee, turn on the gas logs, convince the cats to lay on my feet and not the keyboard and I’m ready to write.

4.     You’ve written nine books in the Cassie series and this book begins a new series. What draws you to writing series.

I’ve been an avid reader since I was about ten. I’ve never put down a book I enjoyed without asking, ‘But then what happened?’ Now I get to do the writing and I can answer that question.  I really get into my characters and I want my readers to get to know them just as well. I like series to be able to show how the characters grow and develop and change over time.

5.     Are all your book in the domestic discipline genre? Why did you choose spanking fiction?

I’ve only written spanking fiction.  It’s always been an interest of mine and after FSOG I know I can’t be alone in this interest. I hope my books can help explain the lifestyle to some that would find it strange. I try to use my books to tell both why a loving man would choose to use spanking and also to explain why women would agree to the arrangement.

6.     What are you working on now?

I’m working on the tenth Cassie book and the second Cal and Jenny book. There are several more ideas swirling around in my head.

7.     Do you have any advice for other writers?

Not everyone will be able to use my first pieces of advice, but they are: Love your kids dearly, then get them grown and out of the house! Secondly, retire. Those two things have helped the most. After that I’d say make a time to write every day that you can. You may decide it’s awful and discard it, but write anyway – the next day you could be brilliant.

#Sale The Country Doctor's Bride - Historical Texas series #EroticMystery #99cents

On Sale for 99cents until 1/17
to Celebrate the last book in the series coming out 1/31

The 6th book in the Naked Bluff, Texas series, western, historical erotica set in 1860s.

Hell breaks loose while resting in the back of a wagon. Shots fire, her new friend falls off the front bench on top of her.

Dixy never expected this. After all, she is on her way out of Texas. As the daughter of a doctor, she has decided to head back to Georgia to help with the war efforts. The only problem is she has to depend on the help of others to get there.

Now, she is rushing to Naked Bluff to find a doctor to help Tobias. Only to have him die and make her the number one suspect. Unable to leave town, she is forced to stay with the town doctor.

Doctor Nathaniel Murphy claims she's everything he wants in a woman.
Can she believe him?
Or should she worry more about the killer?
After all, she's the only one who can identify him.

Excerpt:

“God, Nathaniel, you have to stop,” she groaned and dropped her head to his shoulder.
“Not until you agree to marry me.” He massaged her backside, rocking his hard length against her abdomen.
Darn, but she’d never felt like this before, so hot and needy with every caress compelling her to shed her clothes and have skin to skin contact.
Shocked by her thoughts, she tightened her hands on his shoulders and fought to control her basic urges. “Just because I desire you, doesn’t mean we have to get married.”
He grinned. “Has a man ever fucked you?”
Stunned by his words, she shoved at his chest, disturbed by his bold manner. “Of course not.”
Without releasing her, his focus narrowed, and he glared. “Good, because from now on you’re mine. Do us both a favor and say yes.”

“To what?” She argued, not willing to give into his claim that he’d have a voice in what she did or didn’t do.
